Server Version#: 1.21.4.4079
New install of Plex server on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS with zfs on root filesystem, samba server.
I have configured media folders (smb shares) for both movies and tv shows and given the plex user appropriate permissions. My folder structures for both are as follows and I have named all content folders and files per Plex best practices:
movies / teens / adults
tv shows / teens / adults
I have restricted access to teens and adults shares from my kids and all age appropriate content is saved in the relevant folders for both movies and tv shows.
The movies library works perfectly and just as I had intended. I create a single library pointed to the main movies folder and content from all sub-folders is correctly displayed by Plex.
The tv shows library only seems to work as expected when I point the library to the main folder the content is stored in. So if I create a library pointed to the adults folder then all tv shows in that folder are correctly displayed with the right metadata, seasons, episodes, etc. If, however, I create the library pointed to the main tv shows folder (which is what I want to do) Plex assumes that the teens folder is actually a tv show so tries to create seasons and episodes for it… it’s a muddle. I’ve tried to unmatch, analyse, etc but to no avail and I can’t seem to find a definitive answer for my use case / server version in the forums.
My question is - am I trying to do something that the tv library scraper just can’t handle and therefore need to adjust my folder hierarchies, or is there a way around this so I can preserve my folder structures (and smb share access permissions)?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
