TV Shows Naming/Matching Synology DS918+

Hey guys, I can’t seem to figure this one out. I’m transitioning my files to a Synology DS918+ server. Movies get recognized ok although not the year, but my main issues are with TV Shows. In the Synology Plex folder, in the TV Shows folder I have a folder each for the TV Shows I have, example:
/TV Shows/Monster Bug Wars!/Season 01/Monster Bug Wars! - s01e02 - Eat Or Be Eaten.mkv
There are two seasons, each in its own folder and each season folder with 6 episodes. The entire thing isn’t recognized, it’s seen as the Ellen Degeneres Show and won’t play the files. Same thing happens for my Spongebob Squarepants folder and for the walking dead folder… the only TV show that is recognized is Benny Hill. There is no similar issue with the server I’m transitioning from on my Mac Mini. Why is this!? I only copied and pasted, didn’t change a thing in the hierarchy of folders or the naming. What I did do is in the library section, instead of just TV Shows, I added a library for each of the shows (I.e. TV Shows - Monster Bug Wars!, TV Shows - Sopongebob, etc.) please help, this is making me nutty!!

don’t do this. the first folders plex will see is the Season folders and think there is a show called Season 01 and get all confused combining episodes from other shows also since it thinks they are all from this show called Season 01. if there is an mp4 in there with embedded metadata it might then grab that data and call everything Benny Hill. Not sure if you tried with main folder only so not saying is the cause of original issue but that is not a fix it will only make things worse and cause wacky things happening.

Hey! Thanks so much for writing back. I haven’t changed any of the defaults that were installed when installing the Plex app on my Synology NAS. Which agent(s) do you recommend I use and where is the section within Plex so that I can do this? Thank you!
On the folder/naming situation, how can I then restrict certain TV shows which are child appropriate from others which are not. Also, should I just eliminate the season folder all together?

you have a Plex Pass so you could use the advanced restrictions via ratings or custom labels, or just make a separate library with child appropriate things to share with the child account

I would keep them.

So what should it look like for me as far as folders in the “TV Shows” folder Plex provides say for Monster Bug Wars! Season 1 episode 1?

What BigWheel described doesn’t require a special folder structure.
You keep adding your tv shows into the tv shows folder linked to your tv show library in Plex.

You can then e.g. create a “Plex Home” within your Plex Media Server and create a managed user for your kids. You can share your tv shows with that managed user and restrict the content e.g. to display only G or PG rated shows.
This is all done in the Plex Web app

You will subsequently have the option to switch users in your clients where your admin/main user should be protected with a PIN (so your kids cannot simply login as you and watch videos for older kids/grown-ups).

this file structure and naming is fine. I’m just saying for your library settings

this is correct

This is wrong and strange things will happen if you do this.

So if I’m understanding correctly, in the Plex folder in my NAS server, in the TV Shows folder, don’t make any other folders such as one for Monster Bug Wars or another for Spongebob, just label each video file by its show name, season/episode and title? What about for movies, can I not make sub folders under the main Movies folder within the Plex folder to categorize them as say Comedy or Drama and then make libraries such as Movies - Comedy and Movies - Drama?

No, what is being suggested is that your series name directory be a sub-directory of your TV Shows library directory. For example, assuming your library points to a directory named “TV Shows:”

TV Shows/ <--- Library points here
     Monster Bug Wars!/
          Season 01/
Monster Bug Wars! - S01E02 - Eat or Be Eaten.mkv
               ...
     SpongeBob SquarePants/
          Season 01/
               SpongeBob SquarePants - S01E01 - Help Wanted.mkv
               ...

For movies, a separate directory for each is recommended, but not necessary. Both of the following are valid:

Movies/ <--- Library points here
     Joker (2019)/
          Joker (2019).mkv
     Gemini Man (2019).mkv
