TV Shows not being recognized

I have a short series of shows that would normally be classified as TV shows. There were four seasons and three of the seasons import and match perfectly in Plex. The first season however is in the format of one long movie.

  1. If I change the library to a “personal media” format, all files from all seasons load and play correctly.
  2. If I change the library to “movies”, season one shows up however none of the rest of the files show up.

I have reencoded the season one files, modified tags, changed file name formats, copied and moved folders, rebuilt the library completely, verified permissions, etc. Since the files are loadable when I change the format of the library are there some parameters that say when a file is considered a TV show like length of time/file size?

I was running 0.9.16.6 of Plex on a Mac. Have about 24,000 files with some hosted locally and some hosted on a FreeNas server. I just upgraded to 1.0.0.2261 this morning and reran the scan with no success.

Why would Plex disregard a file due to the format of the library? It obviously can read the file however there’s some strict rule about how something should be classified and I’d just like to know what those rules are.

Thanks.

The file must be named like an episode of a tv show, or it won’t appear in a tv show library.
Are you saying that the first season is several episodes in one file on disk or it is a season consisting purely of one episode?
To make things easier, just tell the name of the show or look it up yourself at TheTVDB.
There you can see if TheTVDB (and therefore Plex) agrees on the episode count for the first season.
Maybe the file you have there doesn’t belong into season 1 but into the ‘specials’ season instead?
