I have a folder withing my TV Shows Folder named Christmas Shows. Within that I have several video files of various Christmas programs. The shows are not showing up in my Plex Library. Any advice as to how to get those into the library? Is it that my individual files are not named properly or because the folder name isn't a normal TV show it won't pick it up?
do you mean you have random episodes of random shows all jumbled together in one big Christmas Shows folder?
can you take screen shot of what you have inside this Christmas shows folder?
but yes take the Christmas Shows out of the TV show folder
in that Christmas shows folder separate the different shows into folders with files named properly just like you need to do regularly
after it is moved You can make a completely separate library or add the Christmas shows folder to the Tv library by adding it in the Edit Library window
I suggest you go to http://thetvdb.com and see how the show is listed there. Often Christmas specials are nothing more than normal episodes during a season and for it to show up in Plex you would have to name it accordingly (ex, "The Simpsons - S17E09 - Simpson's Christmas Stories.mp4").
The trick that worked for me to get these to show up was adding S00E01 to each of the video files. The next problem was when I did have the directly structure like this: Drive\TV Shows\Christmas Shows. I setup the location for a new Library called Christmas Shows to that path. I got my shows in that new library but ODDLY I also got a Christmas Shows category under the TV Shows Library and it seemed to combine all the vids as one item but only showed one of the videos (even in the corner of that item there was the number of vids I had).
So I ended up moving the files to their own folder on the drive as BigWheel suggested.
Is there something I was doing wrong to make it show in both places or is that what happens when u have stuff under the 'parent' folder (TV Shows)? Not exactly how that works...
Also, if I add MOVIES to that folder will they show up in the Christmas Shows Library or can u not mix/match? Will I have to make another Library. Can I have a Movies Library and a TV Show Library UNDER the Christmas Shows Library? Can't find exactly how to do that.
Good to know...thanks. The other question was, can you create 'sub-libraries' under particular libraries? For example, if I setup a Christmas Shows Library, can I then setup TV Show and Movie Libraries under that vs. having to have two separate libraries? So the goal would be to see the Christmas Shows Library on the left Nav...then see TV Shows and Movies as categories within that library, which would then include the corresponding media. When I tried to edit the TV Shows Library and changed name to C shows and setup the folder for just those shows it ended up removing all of my regular TV shows and put the xmas shows in there. I thought it would've create a sub-library but it didn't.
I'm having the same issue. Where mine differs is, The same folder is working on another plex server. The scanner log shows the folder added
Nov 25, 2014 19:47:46:597 [5544] DEBUG - Adding subdirectory for scanner: V:\TV\Supernatural
and the shows

but they aren't appearing in my library.
I recently upgrade my plex media server hardware. I did not migrate the plex library database or plex media server settings. It's a clean install with the folders added to the new library and a full forced refresh run. The folder is a mapped drive on a storage server. The same folder works on my previous plex media server.
I should also add, all my other shows, movies and music show up fine in the library. It's just this one. File permissions match other folders (everyone full control).

I'm having similar problems. My trouble is when I have oddball shows that do not exist in databases like on thetvdb.com or filebot. Those are shows are often documentaries, shows made in my home country (Iceland) etc. How can I rename them so plex will find them. I'm quite happy if it it just shows up in plex so I can watch it, with only bare minimum info showing up in plex.
Should I rename each show as S00E01 and put it in separate folder within a parent folder?
Would this work? Documentaries\World War Two\Oddball Show\Oddball show S00E01.avi
What about personal home videos? Is there any way to make plex just discover and add the files without trying to find a match which it will not be able to when you have a personal home video.
assuming "...\Documentaries\World War Two\" is the folder you added to library
and this is your show Oddball Show\Oddball show S00E01.avi
the yes it should find it just fine. and you will have a show called "Oddball Show" it just wont get any good metadata since it doesnt exist, though it may try if there is something real named similarly and you would have to do a fix incorrect match and use the "personal media shows" agent on that show go get rid of what it grabbed online
if you want to make a whole TV library that does not even attempt to grab metadata. the library but be set to "Personal Media Shows" as the agent rather than theTVDB or whatever.
if it is a Home Movie library. use the "Personal Media" agent.
neither of those will even grab local assets unless you enable "local media assets" agent
So I restarted my plex server, i updated my plex server and Ive forced a media update for my TV folder:
here is the path that is not working:
[user@server~]$ cd /exports/TV/Bear_Grylls/Season_01/
[user@serverSeason_01]$ d
total 6633476
drwxrwxrwx. 2 501 501 4096 Jun 20 14:07 ./
drwxrwxrwx. 3 501 501 50 Jun 20 12:42 ../
-rw-rw-r--. 1 ray ray 1356372991 Jun 20 13:57 Bear Grylls Escape From Hell-S01E01-Jungle Survival Stories.mkv

-rw-rw-r--. 1 ray ray 1322737549 Jun 20 14:05 Bear Grylls Escape from Hell-S01E06-Compilation.mkv
[user@server Season_01]$ pwd
/exports/TV/Bear_Grylls/Season_01 yes changed the user and server identification. So with and without spaces these episodes do not appear in my TV listing. I know they are good files, XBMC has zero issue with them and theTVDB inside of FileBot had no issue detecting them.
*note* d is just a simple alias for ls -laF so before you go stating that d is not a known command, it is my personal touch.
Ive run out of ideas to try.
My server is a fully patched CentOS v7 box
$ uname -a
Linux server.mine.local 3.10.0-229.4.2.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed May 13 10:06:09 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
with 16G of RAM running RAID6 so performance is not the issue.
so whats next to attempt in order to get these episodes to function properly with Plex?
I just wanted to say thank you for posting this full file path and naming convention. This is the most helpful article on the topic. I customized it for the TV shows that I have and once I changed the folder path and names, Plexed started downloading all the show metadata.
To recap. Here is an example of what Plex is looking for when it comes to TV Show folder path and file names.
TV\The Walking Dead\Season 1\The Walking Dead - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv
TV Shows\Iron Man Armored Adventures\Complete Season 1\Iron Man Armored-S01E01-Iron Forged In Fire Pt 1.mp4

Anyone fix this?
I have this similar issue, however Plex sees 3 of the 13 episodes. I’ve even gone through and renamed the files to “E1 - Name” and “Name E1”, but nothing. I’ve deleted the library and have cleared the trash and what not as well, and then recreated the library but with little differences. The only vidoes that show are the same videos that were there before.
Anythoughts?
First thought is that your naming is wrong by what you have posted.
Example path to file:
TV\The Walking Dead\Season 1\The Walking Dead - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv
If you are only using “E1 - The Walking Dead”, this is not what plex is looking for. Also note the folder structure above. The TV folder at the root would be the folder the plex library is pointing at. As @dewd said, check out filebot as it will name the files appropriately for you and set up the folder structure.
Was going to delete this but incase some one like me come’s around looking, here’s the issue and the fix was simple…
below you’ll noticed the file names well they needed to be PART 1.mkv not the name of the ep…
that’s all changed and scanned and working fine now…
So having this issue with just one show, seems odd… here’s my permissions they seem fine, even have extra permissions opposed to my other TV Shows…
/mnt/volume1/TV/Escape at Dannemora/Season 1$ ls -la

I’m running into an issue where some TV show episodes within the same season are not showing up but others are.
Plex version: 1.14.1.5488
OS: Ubuntu 18.04 (not virtualized)
The example TV series I am having issues with.
TV Show Name: Conners, The
Season Name: Season 1
Episode Naming Convention: Conners, The - S01Exx - <TV Show Name.
plex/TV Shows/Conners, The
plex/TV Shows/Conners, The/Season 1
"Conners, The - S01E01 - Keep on Truckin'.mkv"
'Conners, The - S01E02 - Tangled Up in Blue.mkv'
"Conners, The - S01E03 - There Won't Be Blood.mkv"
'Conners, The - S01E04 - The Separation of Church and Dan.mkv'
**'Conners, The - S01E05 - Miracles.mkv'** _<--- This TV Show Shows up within Plex_
**"Conners, The - S01E06 - One Flew Over the Conners' Nest.mkv"** _<--- This TV Show Shows up_ within Plex
'Conners, The - S01E07 - Hold the Salt.mkv'
'Conners, The - S01E08 - O Sister, Where Art Thou.mkv'
'Conners, The - S01E09 - Rage Against the Machine.mkv'
"Conners, The - S01E10 - Don't Shoot the Piano Teacher.mkv"
'Conners, The - S01E11 - We Continue to Truck.mkv'
I’ve tried the following:
Scanning the library files
Emptying the trash
Optimizing the library database
Clean Bundles
Rebooting Operating System
Moving TV Series folder to another library (other tv show library)
I can’t get the episodes to show up. Is there a size limit on TV shows where if the show is too large Plex will ignore it? The average file sizes are ~1.54 GB for each ~21 minute episode.
