Hi, yes, had exactly the same problem.
I’m in New Zealand and due to Plex not being able to grab the NZ TV Guide, had to use separate software to grab the TV Guide into an XML file to populate the TV Guide. The reason I have to do this is already documented here:
The TV Guide is trying to be too clever with the XML file. It’s attempting to determine what is/isn’t a TV Show or Movie and categorize each. Then, it will only allow you certain options based on what it ‘thinks’ the show or movie is. It determines this from the ‘episode-num system’ tag next to each program in the XMLTV file
For example here is Mythbusters. Everyone knows this is episodic however the XML file didn’t download with the ‘episode-num system’ tag in the XML file. Therefore Plex doesn’t think it’s a tv episode and hence you don’t get the recording options.
Here is Brooklyn Nine Nine which is also episodic and it works fine because the XML file does contain the ‘episode-num system’ tag
To restrict recording options based on episodes or movies seems unnecessary and pointless. So what if I want to have repeat recordings of movies or documentaries? Why restrict the ability to do that?
With other software (like Mediaportal) you have the following options on all shows:
For now I’m using Mt Hutt Rescue (from NZXMLTV Freeview) which provides a correctly formatted XML file for the NZ TV guide.
If someone from plex reads this, can we please have Plex not perform this ‘smart tv guide categorization’ function or at least have the ability to turn it off. Considering the Live TV/DVR function appears to be the main reason people seem to be purchasing your software its extremely frustrating it’s not working properly.
