Server Version#:latest nvidia shield version
Player Version#:LG OLED tv version
I have 2 LG OLED TVs they both have the plex app installed natively. I have an nvidia shield pro running my plex server. I have a lifetime plex pass.
The LG tv that is having issues just recently started having problems. It will not connect to the plex server. I have even tried mapping the server directly and it fails to connect. All my connections are wired Ethernet connections. I’ve use this tv to connect to Hulu, Netflix and no issue connecting. I have a fireTV also connected to this tv and connect to the plex server just fine using fire. The native TV app “sees” the device as it sees the correct name for the server. It just will not connect and I get an explanation mark next to the server name.
Any ideas? This one has me baffled. I’ve tried removing the app and reinstalling. I get the same problem.
Please check the version of WebOS installed on those LG TVs. Models with versions older than 5.0 will no longer be able to establish secure connections to your server. You should still be able to connect by disabling secure connections within your server settings (e.g. if all your streaming is happening inside your home network).
Older LG is
client version 5.25.2
Platform version 4.4.0
This tv was manufactured in 2018
The working LG is
Client version 5.25.2
Platform version 5.2.3
I do have my setup to only allow secure connections. I guess an old TV is now 4 years old lame. Good to know though. I was planning to buy an nvidia shield for this TV anyway as nvidia seems to be the only streamer that supports all the audio codecs.
Seems like a good feature request for plex would be to allow unsecure connections locally. And to only require secure remote connections.
They don’t care what we have to say. Unfortunately. I’ve never really used the apps a tv comes with as a reason to buy a display. All of them drop support eventually.
This may make me choose Samsung over LG though for my next display.
