tvdb2.plex.tv still having issues? HTTP Error 403: Forbidden

Hi folks,

I know this was an issue recently but PMS still isn’t able to match any media against TVDB - com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb.log shows:

2016-09-24 16:57:26,705 (7fe23e7fc700) : ERROR (networking:219) - Error opening URL 'https://tvdb2.plex.tv/login'
2016-09-24 16:57:26,706 (7fe23e7fc700) : INFO (__init__:136) - JWT Error: (HTTP Error 403: Forbidden) - ```

status.plex.tv doesn't show any current problems, and the issue remains after removing/reinstalling the PMS 1.1.4 package (on Ubuntu 16.04.1 64-bit). Is this is PMS issue or tvdb2.plex.tv issue?

Thanks for reporting the issue. Will refer it to the relevant team

The problem could not be reproduced. May be a caching issue to do with a specific route

Could you get the output from
nslookup tvdb2.plex.tv
Please also send me you public IP address by Private Message

Hi sa2000,

Thanks for the update - I checked out the DNS resolution and this one is user error. During the previous TVDB service issue I played around with directing tvdb2.plex.tv directly to thetvdb.com’s IP address (104.23.107.176) via /etc/hosts to see if it would work as a temporary patch and promptly forgot about it.

Cleaned that out and all is well - thanks for the pointer and apologies for impugning the honor of the tvdb proxy servers!

Thanks,
Nikhil

Side note - it was interesting to see that the proxy servers would resolve correctly even with the wrong IP on tvdb2.plex.tv, but forbid the connection (as they should):

$ nslookup tvdb2.plex.tv
Server: 127.0.0.1
Address:	127.0.0.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
tvdb2.plex.tv	canonical name = proxy.plex.tv.
proxy.plex.tv	canonical name = proxy.plex.bz.
proxy.plex.bz	canonical name = proxy00.pop.ord.plex.bz.
Name:	proxy00.pop.ord.plex.bz
Address: 23.96.179.174
