I’m having the same issues. TV Show metadata wasn’t working this time yesterday, started working again about 12 hours ago, and has stopped working again (definitely in the last 3 hours, but maybe longer).
I’ve followed all the same steps, but no luck. From what I’ve read, there is some kind of issue with the TVDB API or the way in which Plex is trying to access the API.
My current Plex logs show https://tvdb2.plex.tv returning a HTTP Error 503.
Would love to hear from someone in the Plex team about whether this is Plex side or TVDB side or a little of both.
Apparently there’s been an outage earlier this week at TheTVDB.com

Also getting HTTPError 503 in logs for any tvdb2.plex.tv request.
Even installed a new instance of PMS (non-beta) on a different computer and added a test show just to make sure something wasn’t corrupt with my main library. Same outcome: HTTPError 503.

Anyone found a resolution? Does it make sense to switch to IMDB for shows? Much more reliable…
Same problem here. Episode data is loading but specifically on new TV Shows, all season & show banners/images return 403 or 404 errors within the logs. Tried all resolutions mentioned previously.
A fix for this issue will be included in the next Plex Media Server beta release.
