Anyone ever tried or found a plug-in for TVKaista? See www.tvkaista.fi for details. Finnish high quality streaming. Would be great if anyone knows or interested to build one; this is a key missing feature for me now in Plex. TVKaista is amongst the most popular streaming sites in finland so I assume there is a market for this one.
Please note tvkaista requires an account and monthly fee (at least from accessing abroad which we do)
I've just recently started using Plex and since I use TVKaista I'd like to see TVKaista plug-in also. As a matter of fact I've started developing one already. Plex plug-ins are rather new to me so I had some problems with the video playback. But I think I've found a solution.
Thanks. In Plex however, I cannot change the settings (user, pass, etc), it says loading directory and then does nothing. Manually changing the settings.xml file does not work either. What do I need to do to make it work?
Isn't Plex based on XBMC? Yes, and XBMC plugins can work with Plex but there might be some issues.
I changed username+password directly to the settings.xml file first time, but it should be possible to change those in Plex too. Please check attached files.
Yes, Plex is based on XBMC, but the Plex Media Server (and everything that has to do with Plex plugins) was added after the fork, and is entirely unrelated to any XBMC code.
There may be enough traces of XBMC plugin code left in Plex to use XBMC plugins that don't rely on any of the improvements that XBMC has made to their plugin architecture for the past two years, but I would be very surprised if that code survives to Plex/Nine (although, I will admit I'm surprised it works at all now, so you can take that with a grain of salt, I suppose).
I guess you got it to work then, but for me it does not. I also changed user/pass directly in settings.xml file, but no luck. How is a dedicated Plex plug-in coming along?
Here's a first preview! Not ready, but useful and working very nicely for me :)
Install by extracting and copying the tvkaista.bundle to Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/. Then in the Video section open tvkaista->Preferences and set your preferences, close application and reopen, now tvkaista should display Subscribed Channels, Playlist, Storage, Season Passes and Preferences in main menu.
Things I'm not currently happy about:

Does not use language settings

browsing previous days not working in subscribed channels

small workaround to use rss, i don't know how to use the mediarss feed (suggestions?)

search should come soon

ts-videoformat not playing. mp4 + flv + h264 working beautifully!
Feedback, suggestions, bug reports very welcome! Hope it works as well for you as it does for me! :)
Which format gives highest quality between flv, mp4 and h264?
Other question, more generic: broadcasts have lot of commercials before and after: I have no mouse active in Plex: how do I easily skip/wind forward? Any suggestions (logitech remote or keyboard for that matter)
Skipping forward and backward should work with the arrowkeys on the keyboard(?), also works on the apple remote.
ts-format might not be supported by vlc at all..
Subtitles are probably doable in the future for recordings that have them available, but requires switching to mediarss - something I'm not sure how to handle right now. The switch would also allow thumbnails for videos!
TVKaista is now in appstore so i recommend installing from there!
I can now use the mediarss feed, to set thumbnails for example. Subtitles are provided in the feed but as far as i can tell plex doesn’t support adding subtitles to a streaming videoitem…?
The thumbnails are of such poor quality that, in my opinion, there is no point using them.
Do you know of another plugin that uses srt or xml subtitles?
