Seems like I am bringing up something that pops up a lot for us Linux users.
Anyhow, I have recently converted my plex server from a Windows Machine to an Ubuntu 18.04 machine after my MB bit the dust. Following the install guides and all has been just fine, both reddit and this forum have proved helpful.
However, no matter what I try, I cannot get Plex to be seen outside my network. I have gone through ufw and allowed all the different ports for plex on tcp/udp through for Plex, and have plex set to 32400 with my router (Asus GT-AC5300) forwarding that port externally to the internal IP and Port. Still no dice.
I don’t have my VPN turned on yet at all, and I’m at a complete loss. Let me know what you guys need!
Giving this a bump. I would really like to get this solved guys. I want to be able to have a direct connection outside of my network for myself and clients.
Okay, Chuck, sorry for wasting your time. After scratching my head for two weeks, it turns out that I’m the idiot.
I haven’t used Plex though my VPN yet, but what was happening is that my Asus router has two different places in which you can do port forwarding. One is through the gaming portal, the other is the standard WAN settings. I had the port forwarding happening in both places, not just one.
Sorry for wasting your time, but now everything works great!
