Server is accessible outside network, then it changes to not

Hi everyone

This is the first time I have posted here, but I have been using Plex for a couple years. I can usually work out a solution myself using the good old search function, but I have lucked out this time…

I need my server to be accessible outside my network. I believe I have done all that I need to do to make it work, but evidently I have missed something. When I ‘retry’, it states that the server is accessible outside the network, but one second later it changes and says that it is not.

Info-
x I manually specify the port and it is open in the router settings
x I have given the server permission to access outside the local network in the Windows Firewall
x I am using Windows 10

Please let me know if you require further info from me. If you want logs, you might need to tell me how to get them as I have not accessed them before

Thanks

Please go to canyouseeme.org and specify the port you setup, if your port forwarding is setup properly that will show success!

Please let us know the results.

Thank you for your help.

I followed your instructions and it can’t see me, but I have worked out why… I am using a VPN; when I disconnect the VPN everything checks out, but as soon as I activate it again, it stops working.

Any tips on how to fix this will be very much appreciated!

You need to tell the VPN what port is being forwarded… depending on the VPN that could be easy, hard or impossible. With PIA it’s incredibly easy.

Found what I was looking for, and it worked perfectly!

UPDATE - The solution worked for a while but then stopped.

Yep… it happens.

Any other ideas? No matter what I do, I can’t keep access outside my network.

I have:

  • Made sure the port is open
  • I have checked on http://canyouseeme.org/ and it works
  • I have even turned off the firewall on my computer
  • I am not using a VPN

I am running out of ideas. I want to share my library. I have been using Plex for a while now and would prefer to not have to change to another media server.

Juice, I am not even using PIA now, yet I still can’t access the outside network.

If you used canyouseeme.org and were able to see the port is open, then remote access is most likely working. Did you attempt to connect remotely? If you’d like, you can add me as a friend and I’ll see if I can access your server.

OK… if you ever do get it working and need to enable PIA again using your forwarded port is a breeze. Just tick the checkbox and enter the port you forwarded… that part is easy:

I know this topic is old but i solved this issue by setting the interface in the network tab to my nic instead of automatic.
