Ubuntu cannot find digital tuner

I have a dual boot PC running Windows 10 or Ubuntu 18.04. PMS can find the internal digital tuner and works ok when using Windows 10. PMS live TV used to work with Ubuntu but now it cannot find the internal digital tuner. PMS is version 1.18.2.2058. Any help is appreciated.

What tuner model is it?

What version of PMS do you have installed on Windows and which version on Ubuntu?

How long ago since it worked?

hauppauge quad HD internal card. Model?
Windows PMS 1.4.1.940-574c2fa7
Ubuntu PMS 1.18.2.2058
The last tv recording was Monday Dec 9th

On Linux, the Plex user (plex) uses udev to access the usb devices.

Has your udev (libusb) changed or have the permissions in /dev changed?

I would not know if udev or /dev has changed. What should they be for PMS?

At minimum, since plex runs in its own group, “other” permissions should be rw so it can send commands and receive replies.

OK I have changed the permissions for /dev but I need detailed help with udev (libusb)

thanks

I don’t know which tuner you have nor can we keep track of them all , sorry. You’ll need their help for the rest.

OK, while I have been waiting for some additional feedback, I have installed Kaffeine and setup its’ television. This works and I get the same channels as when PMS was working. Still PMS does not recognize the digital tuner. I appreciate any thoughts.

For PMS to see the tuner, it must be accessible by user plex in the same way it is accessible to you by your linux username.

Tuners are hard to support. I make special consideration for them on Synology.

Open a terminal window.
Go to /dev
Do an ls -la and find the tuner device node.
See which group the tuner belongs to.
Now check /etc/group. If your username is part of that group and plex is not, you have the answer. The solution is to add Plex to that group and restart it.
