So I setup DVR for Plex and it works yay.
But I noticed a lot of channels are incorrect and a lot not mapped. Eg no BBC one or one HD.
And some channels like channel 4 is BBC two and so on.
Now I scanned channels using the settings:
28.2E, None, Ku-Linear (Universal).
And then post code RG1, and Sky HD/Sky Q South Satellite, which gave like 180 odd channels.
I tried FreeSat south satellite and it gave like 40 channels and was also mix match and no BBC one.
Is there a good setting I should use to get this to work okay without too much fuss?
FYI my DVR is EyeTV Netstream 4Sat.
Hi @N0_Klu3 - I also use an EyeTV Netstream 4Sat with Plex and run PMS on a Mac mini.
Assuming you don’t have any Sky subscription you should tune into Freesat South using your settings, i.e. 28.2E, None, Ku-Linear (Universal).
But you will notice a lot of issues particularly with the Plex EPG - this has nothing to do with your setup but you will find that many programmes don’t show up in the EPG, are wrongly labelled, don’t get recorded, etc.
If only I knew - Plex were using Gracenote EPG before and switched to another provider around JUN 2019 and although it isn’t quite as bad as it was initially after the switch, we still see the same problems happening all the time.
The main issues are:
Programmes don’t exist in EPG
Sometimes, there you see blank of generic programs slots in the EPG instead of an actual programme
Programmes are wrongly labelled as old
Sometimes, episodes of a series don’t have the NEW flag in the EPG which then causes Plex not to record the programme, if you didn’t tell it to record old episodes as well
Episodes are wrongly mapped to old episodes
Sometimes, an episode might be labelled as a previous episode which again can cause Plex not to record the programme, if you didn’t tell it to record old episodes as well
Live TV doesn’t work
On the whole, you can forget watching live TV; I usually get an error that it cannot tune into the channel even though Plex is happy to record the very same programme
Live TV playback is bad
On the rare occasion that live TV actually works, it doesn’t do deinterlacing (not sure if this is due to running my Plex Player on an Apple TV) and therefore you’ll see the combing effect
You can use different EPGs but this typically means that you need to pay some subscription fee and one of the attractions of the Plex Pass was that you get lifetime EPG for a one-off fee.
BTW, I’m using Infuse on my Apple TV for watching programmes recorded by Plex. Much better player.
jesus, years after introducing live TV they still havent figured out interlacing ?
I have to wonder, who decided to half ass live TV feature ? When i tried it initially when it was released - it was unusable. Watching posts like yours - it seems they still havent figured out how to copy WMC or even dumb chinese setup boxes.
