WinTV-NOVA-S2 Freesat UK - Will it work?

Hi

I’m pretty new to the plex live tv side of things and have successfully got my WintV Terrestial up and running and my IPTV, however i’m struggling with the NOVA-S2 to receive Freesat UK.

Does anybody have this running? It successfully finds the USB adapter then asks for the sat i’m using 28.2E, then there are two other drop down box options, tried many of each and none of each but when coming to the channel scan it never finds any channels. I have tested the signal coming from the dish on my set top box without issue.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

@frank7029 Unfortunately that’s going to be the start of your problems. I can’t remember the options from the top of my head, but when I first tried to use Freesat with Plex I had to download a DVB viewer program in order to get the information required. The main problem once you’ve done that is that Plex’s Freesat EPG doesn’t work and most of the channels don’t appear in the EPG.

It seems that Plex isn’t interested in fixing this as it’s been going on for years, in the end I had to purchase a HDHomeRun and use Freeview, luckely as I had multiple properties I’m able to connect the HDHomeRun to an ariel in one of my other properties and use Freeview that way.

I hope one day that Plex does sort out the Freesat issues as I do find the picture quality much better on Freesat compared to Freeview especially on the SD channels.

Thanks for the reply, this was my fear after doing some digging myself, but seems like you have just confirmed it.

Think i will need to get my aerial upgraded on my freeview and buy another freeview wintv to get me some extra recording channels. Currently my freeview doesnt receive nay of the HD channels.

thanks again

Have you been using Sky Q previously by any chance?

The Sky Q LNB is NOT supported to receive Freesat via the NOVA-S2 (or anywhere I believe). But confusingly in some software it may pick up some channels and give the illusion that all is working.

You can replace the LNB trivially with a standard ‘HD’ LNB and it will then work fine in Plex - I have done this myself.

You may then have initialisation problems in that you might have to run WinTV first and then do a scan in Plex - there is some kind of ‘kick in’ that WinTV has to do first (in my experience).

I can’t solve Plex’s EPG problems though - you’ll get all the channels but be able to view 95% of them. :frowning:
