Unable to access Plex on TV without connecting Plex media server on laptop

Hi everyone,

I have a MyCloudHome duo and a smart TV
Since the issue on Plex side end of August, I have a lot of troubles with Plex.

I reinstalled the NAS from scratch and now it appears that when I launch Plex from the TV, connection to the NAS is not working until I launch Plex media server on my laptop.

Is there a parameter somewhere to activate in order to be able to connect my TV to my NAS without having my laptop up and running? Do I need to install something on my NAS?

I already have Plex media server connected on the NAS but maybe it is something else.

Thanks a lot for your support

Because it’s a TV there’s a slight chance on TV you need to Allow Insecure Connections on the local network. Smart TVs have aged TLS certs, and this gets around that.

It’s a guess because I’m not familiar with MyCloudHome Duo.
What exact Plex Media Server version number is installed?

Hello,

Insecured Connections are already allowed.

Here is the version of the Plex Media Server

Is there anyone with MyCloudHome Duo knowledge that could help?

I get it now, sorry  You have more than one PMS installed and you’d like to leave the laptop off and run PMS on the Duo. Sounds good.

Please confirm where you first set up PMS, on the laptop?

The answer to your OP is you must have one PMS running to use Plex with your own media.
You should be able to have it run on the Duo and leave the laptop off.
Having two instances of PMS made it more complex but fixable.

Unless I misunderstood, please make a choice from the two solutions below for the way you’d like to setup your PMS. It’s important to understand that neither solution will touch your NAS or your media.

  1. Fresh install on the Duo - if your PMS is brand new, we abandon the PC install.
  2. Migrate from PC to Duo - If it’s a mature install with time invested in library management.

What path were you trying to follow?

Not sure. I was trying to make it work after the complete re-installation. I think I installed it before on the NAS but because it didn’t work, I installed it on the laptop after. Not 100% sure though.

What do you mean with library management?
I created 4 librairies on the Plex website that is a mirror of the folders in the Z: server (my NAS).

If you don’t remember where you first installed PMS, that’s okay. There’s only two choices and we could figure that out if we are trying to preserve & migrate.

by “invested in library management” I mean invested in getting things nice, maybe some custom posters and fixing display names, making collections and playlists, rating movies, that sort of thing.

I will then try the Fresh install on the Duo.
Issue is that it will make disappear the split I have created between Kid movies and Parents movies. Any idea on how to keep this split?

EDIT: it is not working, this step does not work

Another point, I found that I have two servers linked to Plex

My Plex was pointing to the PMS on the laptop.
I deleted this one and re reouted the links to the PMS on the NAS.

I think it is working even if it is lagging. It may be the metadata downloading due to the change.

That’s great news. It will take a while to do all the scans if you have a large library.
