Unable to Access Server on Local Network with Android Devices

Server Version#: 4.63.0
Player Version#: 8.25.1.28703

Run Plex on a docker on my Synology DS420+. Generally works great. Unfortunately, my Android clients suddenly can’t find the server when using the Plex app. Pixel phone and Chromebook both show the server offline. I can reach the server just fine with my LG C1 OLED and am able to reach the server on both Android devices through a web browser. I tried the following and it hasn’t helped:

  • clearing data and cache on the Plex app
  • setting manual connection in Plex app with server IP address (this generally crashes the Android clients when trying to change this setting)
  • allowing insecure connections

Strangely, I enabled remote access and my Android clients can now reach the server. The server isn’t reachable outside the network (i.e. Plex server settings shows ‘Not available outside your network’), but that setting seems to allow local Android clients to reach the Plex server.

I verified that the server is unreachable outside the network by switching Android client to LTE.

Any tips?

Are you on Android 12 by any chance? There seems to be an issue with Plex app on Android 12, where the app crashes when enabling manual connection in the settings. Looks like a bug to me

Yes. Using Android 12, so suspect the manual connections issue is as you outlined. But the connection failure that occurs without setting manual connections is a different issue with the Android Plex app.
