Recently, I don’t seem to be able to use the casting feature in Plexamp to either cast music from one device to another and also to ‘pull’ the currently playing music from one device to another.
If I try to cast from Plexamp on my Mac to an LG WebOS TV, I get the following:
- The TV shows up in the cast menu in Plexamp
- I select the TV in said list
- Plexamp on the Mac shows a little swirly icon next to the TV (to signify that it’s loading)
- TV shows ‘Buffering…’
- TV drops back to the home screen
- Plexamp shows “Could not switch to player”
If I try to cast from Plexamp on my Mac to an LG WebOS TV, I get the following:
- The TV shows up in the cast menu in Plexamp
- I select the TV in said list
- Plexamp on the iPhone shows a little swirly icon next to the TV (to signify that it’s loading)
- TV shows ‘Buffering…’
- TV drops back to the home screen
- Plexamp shows “Could not switch to player”
If I try to ‘pull’ the currently playing music from my iPhone to the Mac in Plexamp, I get the following:
- I click the two down arrows
- Nothing happens at all – neither on the iPhone or the Mac
I seem to be able to pull the currently playing music on the Mac to the iPhone, but I can’t pull what’s playing on the iPhone to the Mac.
I am able to cast the currently playing music from the iPhone to the Mac, but not to the TVs (as mentioned above).
There was a time (a few months ago) when this all worked. It didn’t work 100% of the time, but it just had the odd blip and if I retried it, worked. I just assumed these blips were bugs that were yet to be fixed in the system and I could live with that. I can’t recall a particular Plexamp + Plex for WebOS version combination where this was working, I’m afraid.
My primary use case for this is casting from phones and Macs to TVs and currently I just cannot get this to work.
I did have a look at the logs on the server (with the TV set to log to the server) but it didn’t seem to give any indication of the issue. I can try again and provide the logs, if they’re of use.
