A few months ago, I ran into a problem with my Plex server on an old machine running Linux Mint MATE 19 after updating to the latest version of the PMS. Since then, every I’ve repeatedly gotten a message in the browser window (the 324000/web site) that there is unclaimed server on my network to be claimed. However, when I click to claim the server, the wheel spins for approximately 60 seconds and the message to claim the server returns. I also consistently get a message that there’s a new version of Plex that I should upgrade too, even when I’m running the latest version. I’ve tried the troubleshooting instructions on several of the threads posted here, as well as purging and re-installing the PMS several times, but no luck. I’ve even purged and reinstalled my browser, as I’ve read there can be tokens stored in there that will cause the failure to claim, but this has not solved the problem either.
Recently, I read that Plex is “technically” only supported on Ubuntu, Fedora, and CentOS. Even though Mint is essentially Ubuntu, I tried a fresh install of Xubuntu on the machine to see if that may be causing my issues. However, even with the fresh Xubuntu install, I’m getting the same issues. I had no such problems for years until they popped up a few months ago, and Emby works perfectly fine for me.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Emby is fine, but it isn’t supported on as many devices, and I’d prefer to switch back to Plex if at all possible.
