I have been scratching my head at this problem all day, i cannot claim my server. So i tried getting a server token. That fails with a message “did not connect: potential security issue” in Firefox.
So i tried going here to ask about it, same thing if i try to log in to these forums. So i finally tried my phone, that fails too but if i turn off WiFi it works.
What could it be that as far as i know only blocks plex on my home network?
If you have access to the settings of your router, try setting the “DNS Server” to either 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8
If the router doesn’t provide you access to these settings, you can do the same in the properties of the network connection of your server machine. And any other machine which you are using to claim the server, or access your plex server.
Verify that you don’t put the server machine into a DMZ via the router settings.
Verify that you only use IP ranges which are specifically designated for private networks for your home network(s).
If your router provides the setting, put the domain name plex.direct into the list of domains which are exempt from “DNS rebinding protection”. https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/
So this is strange, when i logged in to my router the DNS was already set to 8.8.8.8, likely from trying to solve this problem before, so i disabled it and opted to “connect to DNS server automatically” and that did the trick. Now it works. Thank you. 8.8.8.8 may not work for everyone.
That should considered a scandal. Which is to be blamed on your ISP.
8.8.8.8 is the public DNS service from Google. Nobody in their right mind would prevent their customers from using this, unless there is some shady or repressive motivation behind it.
To be perfectly honest, i trust my ISP infinetly more than i trust Google. They got rid of their “do no evil” thing and now they work closely with the worlds most oppressive organizations like the pentagon and cia.
