Unable to claim server

I had to reinstall after a hard drive crash. Everything has been going just fine, and then tonight my server started saying it was unclaimed and insecure. I clicked the “Claim server” button, a wait swirl spun for a minute, and then there was a brief “No Soup for You” message and access to my server was removed. What the ■■■■? I have a plex pass. This was working. Now it’s not?

I tried claiming the server locally instead of through plex web and nothing happens. Meanwhile I can’t use my server. I’ve been using Plex for a while now. Why is Plex suddenly shutting off my server?

I tried attaching logs, but I can’t find where I can do that. It looks like the token is getting lost somewhere:

Your web browser is holding a token which the server isn’t liking (it happens).
Plex isn’t shutting off your server.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. In the shell window, go in and delete “Preferences.xml”
  3. Start PMS
  4. Open an In-Cognito browser window
  5. start the fresh setup via http://127.0.0.1:32400/web as normal. (no token carried forward)

Ok. I tried this three times. The first time I was given an error stating “There was a problem claiming your media server” and I was left in the same position I started in. The second time I didn’t get that error, it just says the server is unavailable. The third time it gave me the “There was a problem claiming your server” error again and I’m back where I started.

I understand that the server is running, but it is not accessible from any devices in this state. It’s only accessible from the browser on the server.

That’s correct… When unclaimed, it’s accessible (to be claimed) from the server console or via remote SSH termninal

ssh -L 8888:127.0.0.1:32400 ip.addr.of.server (if not on your LAN)

then open, (Local browser) http://127.0.0.1:8888/web

Claiming the server from the server console doesn’t work. Nothing happens at all. It’s the exact same problem I started with.

Please stop the server, create a tar.gz of the ./Logs directory (under /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server) and attach it here, I will see what it’s complaining about.

Is this a docker container or do you simply have docker running on the machine?

It looks like Ubuntu

If this is Ubuntu, with docker running for other purposes, I would like to suggest you try a previous version (1.13.5 or earlier).

I can offer you 1.13.2 (from my google-drive).

I offer it because of issues with 1.13.5+ which have not yet been resolved. Of particular focus is the SSDP broadcast spamming showing in your log files which is known.

It’s Mint 19, so Ununtu Bionic is under the hood. Docker is on the machine, but plex is not running in a docker container.

I removed my installed version of plex and installed the older version you supplied. I got the same error. I then removed and purged PMS, installed the version you supplied, and got the same error. I then removed, purged, and manually deleted the /var/lib/plexmediaserver directory (hey, you guys should do this when a package is purged, that’s bad form), installed the version you supplied, and continue to get the same error.

Latest logs are here.

  1. Mint is a (technically unsupported) variant of Ubuntu. You’re not the first Mint user with problems.
  2. where is the server? remote or local to you?

It’s local. I’m typing this reply on the server.

I managed to find an old copy of version 1.13.2.5102 and that seems to be working fine so far.

Having the same problem with Plex 1.13.9.5456 running on a dedicated Ubuntu 16.04 server, freshly built just for Plex. Can’t claim it, just spins, tried stopping PMS, removing Preferences.xml, restarting PMS, and claiming in an incognito window, with the same results. Can you link to where you found the 1.13.2.5102 version?

You’re opening it ON the same machine, opening http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in an in-cognito window?

If you have done this, which distro do you need?

I found it on my local drive. The server here won’t let me post it, though. If you still need it let me know and I’ll find a place to host it.

Totally appreciated, if you can put it up in a cloud drive or something and post a link.

I’m using Ubuntu 16.04, 32-bit.

I have only 64 bit versions. My machines are all 64 bit and HW transcoding capable. There’s nothing gained by being 32 bit anymore
