Unable to claim server

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793

Hello. I have installed the plexmediaserver-plexpass package from ports in an 11.2 jail on my FreeNAS. Everything looks fine, and I am able to get to it externally using my public IP on port 32400 so network access is fine.

The issue I’m having is that it won’t let me claim the server. When I click the Claim Server button, it just spins for a few seconds and nothing happens. Here is the error in the log:

MessageMyPlex: Got error: Internal Server Error <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> 500 Internal Server Error

Try: [REL] ClaimIt

Thanks dane. I did try that too and get the same 500 error. DNS seems to be working fine and I am able to get to my server remotely using the public IP so it doesn’t seem to be a network issue. I’ve tried recreating the jail fresh and also have tried the regular plexmediaserver port (not plexpass) and have the same issue. Not really sure where else to look.

Well, what I’ve seen is that even though DNS works, it’s too slow for PMS, thus generating error 500

Try and set it to 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 for a short test

Thanks again for your suggestion dane. I tried setting my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 and neither seemed to help. Same issue.

ClaimIt:

Then we need PMS logs

Absolutely! Any help is much appreciated. Logs attached.

Question:

If you can’t claim the server, then how did you manage to get the logfiles?

Also, could you switch into verbose logging, and retry claiming once more?
Then upload the log again

I am able to pull up the GUI and log in just fine. Everything seems to work fine, but the server is not claimed and cannot be.

Here are the updated logs with verbose logging enabled. I tried to claim twice before pulling the logs, same result each time.

Are you running double nat?

May 15, 2019 13:20:40.768 [0x80ceeca00] DEBUG - PublicAddressManager: got WAN IP 192.168.128.31 from router
May 15, 2019 13:20:40.768 [0x80ceeca00] WARN - PublicAddressManager: WAN IP is a private IP address

And as a follow up, look here regarding double nat:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access/

Yes, I am behind a double NAT. There is no way around it for me. I have forwarded 32400 on both routers. The issue I’m having isn’t even with remote access though, which I know will be problematic. The issue is simply claiming the server. That should still work even with a double NAT, correct?

Unsure, but when said, error 500 could sadly be caused by many things…
Try this:

Power off PMS, and then rename Preferences.xml file to Preferences.xml.old
Then restart PMS, and see if that makes a difference

I renamed my Preferences.xml file and restarted Plex. It walked me through the setup again but the problem still exists.

Then I’m sorry, but sadly have no more ideas, and suspect your dbl. nat has an impact here

I’m definitely not ruling the double NAT out as the cause of the issue, I just don’t understand why it’s an issue in the first place. I had a Plex server running for years in this environment that worked perfectly fine including remote access. I built a new jail recently to start fresh and immediately started having this issue. I can reach the new Plex server remotely just fine so I know that ports are all forwarding correctly. It seems to me that there is problem with Plex here. A doubt NAT shouldn’t stop a server from being claimed, especially when ports are open.

So I tried again today to claim my Plex server. I made no changes since last time I tried. Same version, no updates. Not even a reboot. All of a sudden, the claim worked perfectly. I had been trying for weeks and it didn’t work every time. i must have tried well over 100 times… But now it’s good for some reason. I wish I knew what the issue was but I guess since it’s working, I’m all set now. Thanks for all your help dane.
