Unable to connect to new RPi2 via SSH

My RPi1 worked fine. I have verified the IP and verified that the SSH service is set to start in RasPlex. I can’t connect via Putty or telnet, but am able to ping the device.

What am I doing wrong?

SSH works fine for me with RasPlex, both for RPi1 and RPi2 (I have both in my LAN).
The main suspects in cases like this are firewalls either in the system you are trying to connect from or in some networking hardware in between.
And of course there’s always some risk of SSH client configuration mistakes.

Once, quite long ago now, I had to upgrade my PuTTY program, in order to cope with protocol updates used in newer Linux kernels. So that’s another thing to check for. My current PuTTY version is 0.63, and this works fine with the current versions of RasPlex.

Remember that for some things you can also access the RasPlex filesystem through normal SMB filesharing.
That’s what I use myself for fine tuning the SMB configs and then add custom skins etc.

There are no firewalls, I can SSH into other boxes here, and I verified with telnet that the port is not open.

Then I’m almost out of ideas for what might be wrong, as SSH works fine with RasPlex for me and many others, using either RPi1 or RPi2, so your problem is not due to an error in the RasPlex coding of the SSH server. So I think it must be due to either a configuration problem or some hardware problem.

Have you tried turning the RasPlex SSH server off and then on again in the “System Settings” > Services submenu ? (I guess you have, but still have to ask…)

What kind of networking are you using to connect the RPi and your computers in your LAN ?
Are they just connected together through a simple LAN switch, or is there any additional router or access point between them (which might affect SSH routing or response) ?

Yeah, I’m at a loss too. I’ve tried turning the service off and on. The network is hardwired and I can plug my Pi1 into the same port and SSH just fine.

I guess I’ll try to maybe redownload and install RasPlex?

Have you tried reflashing the SD card, maybe some corruption, also you haven’t said whether the RPi2 is playing media OK.
