Unable to connect to SERVER -- PS4

My Plex was working fine yesterday, then all of the sudden I started receiving a message that states:

"Unable to connect to SERVER

We tried to connect to: XXX.XXX.X.XXX. You are signed in as justin_harris."

I tried the solution of switching the Primary and Secondary DNS addresses to Google, but that didn’t work. I’m very confused by why this just suddenly happened as I didn’t change any of my options before. I can’t find a useful solution, so any help would be very appreciated. Thank you.

Same issue, I also tried changing the DNS addresses, no change. I also tried the obvious things such as restarting my router, reinstalling the app, etc. Connection still works on Android, so suspect the issue is on the PS4 side. I’m not sure exactly when the issue started, since I hadn’t used the app in a few months, but the only thing that changed in that time were software updates on PS4. No network changes, no Plex updates. After I first experienced the error I did bring my Plex server installation up to date, but to no avail.

First question would be: are there others who are experiencing this, where the DNS change doesn’t fix the connection issues?

So no updates? Cool. Glad to know this support forum answered my questions.

Hello to you both,
I have the same problem on PS4
And reading your message I come to the following conclusion:
The problem comes from the last update of the PS4.
I have done all the tests possible and everything works perfectly on android, home theater and web …
This is necessarily linked to the last update of the console

Esperont that a new update is planned …
But I have the impression that this problem does not affect everyone!

justin_harris, I am experiencing the same issue, and DNS changes didnt help at all. This is infuriating at this point since all other devices can connect, but not the PS4. GRR, thanks a lot to the dev team for quick response times.

Same issue here, I’ve got a work around to access your content:
Enable “DLNA server” on the plex server. Download/Use “Media Player” app, you should be able to access your content from here… give it a few seconds and your library should appear as a network drive. Little bit clunky to navigate, but at least you can access your plex media.

I have gone through and tried everything… reinstalled plex on server, reinstalled app on the PS4, reset DNS settings (they were set to OpenDNS, now ISP set), deregistered all devices, reregistered. This is happening to both my PS4 consoles.

From my research, it looks like the PS4 is unable to get a new SSL certificate for authentication… if I disable “secure connection”, I am able to access the app with no issues, but this isn’t a solution, just a work around… as it then becomes unsecured.

The deactivation of “secure connection” under server -> network is not fine, but it will work, thank @neb351 .

Hello @kay.one ,
did Plex know this issue?

Use 3 Routers in a Y configuration , 1 internally LAN, other for PS4 and dumb devises, last one Modem Router outside WAN, That way NAT’s will secure all.

If you go GRC website it well documented.

Dude…what? This needs to b simple for any joe blow…obviously there’s an issue here. We want a fix, not a work around

I am having the same issue. Not only on the PS4 , but also on the PS3. I keep getting “Unable to Connect to Server” messages.

I find that if I remove the device and then re-add it, it will work for a short period of time. And then I pause a movie for a couple of minutes, then it happens again. The same message pops up, “Unable to connect to server”…

Very frustrating!!
