Unable to display long playlists, Recently Added, or Artists in Android Auto

This is one area I’ve been hoping Plex would improve on. Direct and open communication with their users. As @jesusplex stated, the issue seemed to arise after Plex updated some Google libraries after version v7.10.0.8875 which ended breaking the integration. So the way I think Plex could have handled this is to recognize the new Google provided libraries break the integration, revert back to the older libraries and make Google aware the latest one breaks integration. At least keep it that way until Google fixes the issue with the libraries then introduce it back in.

Do the new Google libraries apply only to Plex?
We were told that the “update” was imposed by Google to continue the AA integration.
So why don’t other apps suffer from it?
Have you found any documents that formalize the limit of 500 items? not me

ah…and obviously old libraries work great …

So it seems the latest update has broken the last working piece in Android auto (recently played). This was still an option that was at least working while recently added, artists and playlists were not working. Is anyone encountering the same issue?

The same.
Only Artist work.
But I don’t want to reinstall the old version.
Given the tragicomic management of AA will switch to Carplay and Prism.
Bye

My recently played has not been working for a while either. I’ve had the same issue. In order to play anything lately, I have to use the phone directly for picking songs, which, as stated is not safe and defeats the purpose.

Forcing to use the phone in car is the worst defeat for a system like Android Auto

I finally broke down and started uploading my music library to Google Play Music last night.

Yes, using an old version of the Android Plex app does help correct the problems outlined in this thread. But why should we have to do that?

Until Plex gets the basics right with Android Auto integration and fixes these problems, I see little point in using it for music in the car. Simply, it is not usable (or safe). And that’s a huge disappointment. I have been an advocate for Plex for a long time, but they have failed very badly here.

Totally agree
ridiculous to use a 6-month old version of the app and all this in the silent consent of the developers

While I agree with your assessment of the situation, the problem would appear to be on the AA side of things, and not an issue that is specific to Plex.

It’s unfortunate that an issue originating from Google would push us to use another Google app instead of Plex, though …

what would be the issue originated by Google?

…This is what he means originated by google problem

I don’t really care where the problem is, just looking forward to helping to get it fixed. I don’t know what we need to do / provide to get the ball rolling, but something needs to happen. 3+ Months…

Someone asked whether Plex had contacted Google regarding that issue, but I haven’t seen an answer regarding that point.

that issue only applies to Plex
other apps don’t suffer from it
this almost since 3 months

Looks like recently played has been fixed now. Hopefully they work on artists and recently added and playlists next. And wishful thinking here, I hope they also add artist radio to Android auto interface.

I don’t think recently played has been fixed. All still broken for me.

See attached screenshot

Also just tested again and it works on the latest. But recently added, playlists and artists are still broken.

Odd, it doesn’t work for me at all.

Does not for me, either. I’ll check to see if there are improvements with newer releases, but for now, Plex via Android Auto is DOA. Worthless.

same issue, spinning circle forewer
