I regularly update my Plex app when updates become available, usually with no issue, but about a month ago every time I opened the app on my Xbox one, it asked me if I’d like to update. I select yes and nothing seems to happen, the app works fine. If I go to my updates section in my Xbox, there is never any Plex updates listed to be installed (other apps appear normally), yet every time I open the app, it asked me the same prompt with the exact same outcome.
So I thought, maybe there is a bug and uninstalled the app. I go to reinstall the app now and I hit installl but and nothing happens, as if it’s a dead button. I’ve tried restarting my Xbox and the WiFi and still I can’t install the Plex app anymore. All my other apps are still being updated, it’s just my Plex app.
Please help if anyone can, I have the latest Plex media server update and it works fine on my computer/iOS apps and chrome cast.
Sounds like it’s not compatible or something. I’m guessing you were missing an update earlier too.
Have you updated the console itself lately? I’d guess they might require an up to date Xbox to let you download the latest versions of some apps.
Personally I’d contact Microsoft support about the installing app issue. It’s their store that is bugged/broken, right? Almost sounds like a factory reset or something might help, but I’d wait until that was the last option (you’ll lose any things you’ve installed/downloaded to that console). Maybe try installing anything else to verify most of that process works?
I can imagine a REALLY slow internet might look like you’ve described. Or if you were already installing something else it might look like it just sat there instead of showing it was queued.
It was working perfectly for a year and even was streaming my 1080p videos way better then my chrome-cast (hardly any buffering).
But once the app started bugging and I uninstalled it, I could never install it again.
About a month ago, I actually ended up just doing an Xbox wipe (minus games and apps) and I was able to download the app again, no problems. So weird. I feel like there was some kind of bug in the downloading process of the app. But if anyone ever comes across this thread with the same issue, I suggest a reset too!
