Unable to Find Audio Settings

Server Version#: 1.23.5.4862
Player Version#: 4.59.2

Hi all,

I was doing research on Plex and surround sound receivers and I came across a setting issue. I’m unable to locate where you can set Plex audio preferences as seen in this article. Whenever I navigate to the ‘Player’ section in the settings, the only audio setting available is ‘Normalize Multi-channel Audio’ as seen below:

Am I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yep… you’re using Plex Web. The article is referring to the advanced audio configuration of the Plex for Mac/Windows desktop client.

Thank you for your quick reply. That makes sense why I wasn’t able to find it. How do I find those or similar settings using Plex Web?

Plex Web depends on your browser. It’s running in your browser like in a sandbox and has no means to access your audio devices or set an exclusive mode.

Due to this technical limitation of the browser, there’s also no option within Plex Web to do that.

Ah, I understand. I’m accessing Plex running on my Synology NAS through FireFox on Windows 10. I don’t know of any other way to connect to the Plex Server except that way. I have the client app on my Xbox One as well as Roku. I’m seeing the same behavior on each.

Granted, I don’t have any other audio devices so the audio is just sent through the TV on both the Xbox One and Roku. Is that why I’m unable to see these settings? If I were to purchase, say a sound bar or a surround sound system, would the settings I’m looking for be available after hooking said audio device(s) up?

Keep in mind this is a client specific configuration – you cannot control that from your server.
If you want to play your media on a desktop you can install Plex for Mac/Windows from the Plex download page.

Different clients have different ways how they interact with their environment. Sometimes those options are derived from the underlying hardware platform (e.g. if the platform allows manipulating its system parameters).

According to the support article on the Roku settings, there’s no specific audio configurations within the client.
I’m not using a Roku myself, so I cannot tell if there’s other configurations on the Roku outside Plex. I know there’s a mix of system and app settings that define the audio handling on the Apple TV.

Oh ok I see what you mean. You can only view/change those settings if the client you’re using allows you to do that. Thank you for your time and patience in helping me understand this.
