I am a newbie to Plex. Just downloaded the latest version and have been googling how to use it. I have a 7.2.2 surround Home Theatre system and I can’t get PLEX to play DTSHDMA or Dolby Atmos through my saved movie files (MKV) on my HTPC. I previously used KODI and it all worked fine but someone suggested I use PLEX (thought I’d give it a go).
Where do I find the AUDIO settings ? I know I need to be in TV mode but I can’t locate the button. I’ve spent hours searching the internet to no avail. PLEASE HELP.
Thanks for the reply. What I am using is the Plex Media Player software. What is the additional server software you are referring to ? and where can I download that ?
In your picture above I have a “GO PREMIUM” button where you would “Enter TV layout”. If I click on that then I need to purchase a Plex Pass.
Do I need to purchase a Plex Pass in order to be able to change the Audio?
Yes, I was using the Plex Web App. I went back on the Plex website and found the Plex Media Player software. After running that I was able to configure the Audio and “Happy Days” I now have my movies playing as they should.
downloaded the plex player but all of the settings were exactly the same as the server software i use on my laptop to configure posters and order etc. Could not find the audio settings Im afraid
Once inside the tv mode, press h to go back to the home page.
Use your keyboard cursor buttons to move to the right side on the top,
over your user avatar picture
press Enter
move to Settings Enter
Audio - Enter
Once you have done all settings, you can go back to desktop mode with your mouse
thanks ottokerner for replying i just had break through on my laptop and found this menu and changed the settings. does this mean that these settings apply to my PS4 as i have made these changes on my laptop. Or do i have to install plex media player on every device in the house I wish to make these changes on.
thank again mate for getting in touch. really helped my avoid going crazy with this.
These are only valid for the locally installed Plex Media Player.
The Plex app on the Playstation is not Plex Media Player, btw.
Even though the apps look similar on the various hardware platforms, it always depends of the hardware if the Audio menu has the necessary ‘passthrough’ settings or not.
i went into the PS4 settings but the most it will allow is dolby digital plus no HD or 7.1 capabilities so my yamaha 3020 reciver is only getting DTS at 1.5 MBS shame that as when you put the Blu ray disc in you get full HD audio.
also any film encoded with VC 1 constantly buffers
AFAIK the hardware cannot do more than that. If you want full HD audio, get a nVidia Shield or use a PC.
The VC-1 codec is not supported by the PS. Therefore your plex server needs to transcode it to H.264. Which requires a relatively high CPU power, particularly if you also activate subtitles. If your server cpu cannot cope, you get buffering.
wondered why Vc1 is fine on my smart tv but not ps . i have a synology ds18 as a NAS
take it thats not powerful enough then.
might a well ditch the second PS4 I bought for the spare room and look into the Nvidia shield I guess.
In the meantime I am using hand brake to convert VC1 films
