Plex can´t find my server out of the blue...

Hi,

up till a couple of hour everything worked just fine, now nothing does.

I tried to watch a series through Roku and got the message that he can´t find my server. It only offers my desktop as server.

So I went into the Plex web app and the server is gone there too. It even doesn´t show up in the device list. I turned off all Antivirus but that didn´t change a thing. I restarted the PMS => server still gone. I deleted the bundles mentioned in some other post, I repaired the PMS, nothing seems to do the trick. I tried to ping my Server (Qnap HS 251+) and it appears as normal. I also have access to it through the explorer.

To be honest I don´t know what else I can do.

Thanks for your help.

BR PB

Ps.: What I forgot to mention, I updated the PMS, is it connected to it perhaps?

Find the Preferences.xml file on your NAS.
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/175405/qnap-faq-read-me-first

Look what it contains as email address under ‘PlexOnlineMail’

Is this the same email address you are using to login to the Plex web app?
If not: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

When you updated PMS on your QNAP, did you uninstall the old version first or did you install On-Top-Of the existing (Update in place)

Hi, thanks for the replies!
@OttoKerner I tried to get through the link provided but I didn´t manage to find how to get to the preference file. Where can I find it?
@ChuckPA yes I first deleted everything. Beside that I anyway can´t even open the new plex app from the nas as it just opens a blanc window. It doesn´t even show an adress so that i could use the http(s) trick.
Any other idea?
Thanks for your help.

This is covered in the QNAP FAQ - Q11
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/175405/qnap-faq-read-me-first#Q11
That’s why I put a link there.

Pete,
If you remove PMS first, you delete all your library and the QNAP forgets everything. The best procedure is to install any updates (or downgrade) on top of the existing
Doing it this way replaces only the binary files. It’s a quirk of QNAP but that’s how it works best

You will need to perform a full, first-run, setup all over again

@OttoKerner sorry I didn´t make the connection to the Preferences.xml file and q11 in the beginning. I managed now with google to get ssh running but when I type the path mentioned getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf PlexMediaServer Install_path nothing happens.

@ChuckPA thanks for the tip, lesson learned for the future. is there a trick how to easy reset the whole plex thing? Delete all devices?

I managed to install the server from my laptop but why does it not work to get the app on the nas running? I would like to avoid having my laptop running all the time…

The guys from the Qnap club had the solution:

Step 1: stopp the app in Qnap ( go to app center and select the app and stop it) and restart the Qnap server
Step 2: In case Plex is running again after the restart, stop it again and reinstall it (don´t delete the old app). once done restart the qnap server.
Step 3: be amazed that the app can be started under Qnap again.

Thanks again for all support provided, case closed
