Having an issue with Plex loading data for The X files (season 1-9)
I transferred all 9 seasons yesterday to my synology box running Plex, in the same format as my other TV shows.
TV Show
The X Files
Season 1
The X-Files - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv
It scans them, says its loading meta data, then says its complete. After 36 hours not a single episode has been matched, no poster etc. Have kicked off several manual scans and restarted my synology box but it still wont update. I have added some episodes of other TV series to the box which are matched fine on Plex, and this continues to be the case. Synology’s own DS Video app is able to match all of the X files episodes fine.
I’m scanning with the TVDB agent and this has highest priority. I also removed the entire series from plex, scanned the library, emptied the trash, cleaned the bundles and then re-added, same result (meta data “downloaded” but nothing is there)
Could it be a corruption in the database relating to this series? I tried just adding one episode but it doesn’t match either, when I check TVDB, the series is there. Interestingly just prior to loading the full series I added one episode (to test playback) and it matched fine, so I don’t understand why it doesn’t match the series and why it continues to match other TV series fine.
I really don’t want to have to wipe the plex database and start again, so is there some fancy database or cache I can modify? or perhaps something else?
Have you done a manual match? Leave the year blank and use “The X-Files” as the title (with the hyphen). It used to be that a near miss in the name would find a match (so just “X Files” would have found it) but now it seems to require a 100% perfect match with no year specified.
Hi, Thanks, but I’m not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the actual file name on the plex server?
so instead of
TV Show
The X Files
Season 1\
I make it
TV Show
The X-Files
Season 1\
If so I tried that and it didn’t work either.
Amazingly, removing the “The” seems to have fixed the issue, so the folder name is
TV Show
X-Files
Season 1\
Thanks for steering me in the right direction, but it makes no sense as the series is called “The X Files” and is that way on TVDB!

Unfortunately TVDB lists both “X-Files” and “The X-Files”, therefore the confusion. I see that, for example “X Files” is the italian title
I have the exact same issue. Three seasons of The Wire, Plex imported perfectly. On season 4 it just couldn’t detect it. And it is the exact same release, everythint is exactly the same.

Plex just added season4 as a whole new TV Series called “The Wire S04 Season 4” with no thumbnails or anything.

Are you using that folder structure? No surprise Plex is a bit “confused”
