HELP! Plex refuses to save a tv series match after manually correcting

I’m having problems this past week with Plex correctly matching and keeping one tv series on my server. The show is “Blindspot”. Now that the 2nd season has started, Plex suddenly is refusing to make a correct match or save a manual match after I’ve updated it. Previously, throughout all of the 1st season, it matched correctly with no problems. During the first season I had the files saved in “_TV Shows/Blindspot/” with all episodes named as “Blindspot.S01E01.720p.x264.mkv”. Once the new season began, I created a new folder named “Season 1” and moved all of the first season episodes into that, then added a new folder named “Season 2” for new episodes as they air. Now for no reason I can find, Plex list both seasons as “Season 1” (2 entries, 1 with 10 episodes, the other with the remaining 13 episodes) and “Season 2” and removes all TVDB info, posters, backgrounds, etc. I’ve gone in multiple times now and ran a new “match” and updated each entry, which then shows correctly. But the next time my library updates, it switches it back to the “Season 1” and “Season 2” mismatch again.

I’ve moved the entire Blindspot folder out of the Plex path for the TV Shows library, ran “Clean Bundles”, emptied the trash, refreshed, so Plex sees the series removed completely. But as soon as I move it back into my TV Shows folder and refresh, or allow it to auto-refresh the libraries, it goes right back to the “Season 1” and “Season 2” entry again, refusing to hold any manual matching.

This is the only series I’m having this problem with in spite of having done the same (making a new “Season 1” and “Season 2” folder) with several other series I have. It’s driving me mad how it worked perfectly fine for all 23 episodes last season, but now that I’ve added 2nd season episodes into the mix suddenly it’s all wrong, especially when it’s the only series/episodes this is happening to out of 95 different series on my server containing 165 seasons and 2,141 individual episodes.

Please provide the scanner and TheTVDB agent logs when you added the file for the second season.

TVDB and Scanner logs attached. Thanks for the help.

Prior to generating these, I again removed the full Blindspot folder from the Plex Library path. Refreshed libraries, ran Clean Bundles, Emptied Trash, verified the entire series was not showing in Plex, then re-added the folder back into the path, refreshed again, ran a manual update to match correctly, then ran refresh again to verify the matches would not hold and the episodes all reverted back to “Season 1” and “Season 2” series titles with no entry info for the episodes.

Also just verified the embedded info on both season 2 episodes. All they show are basic info of Title: Blindspot S02E01 and Title: Blindspot S02E02 with metadata listing the show name and correct season # and episode #.

If you still have your files named “Blindspot.S01E01.720p.x264.mkv” you might want to change it to the recommended Plex format of “Blindspot - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv”. While what you are using should work and may have worked in the past it is not what Plex recommends.

There are numerous tools that will help with the naming I use FileBot with the TV format string of:
{n.replaceTrailingBrackets()} - {s00e00.lower()} - {t}

See: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Based-TV-Shows

I have Blindspot named as above and Plex has matched every episode correctly
BTW: The first episode of Season 2 is named: "
Blindspot - s02e01 - In Night So Ransomed Rogue.mkv"
and I have two "season folders Season 01 and season 02 and season 2 is showing correctly as season 2.

Well, I downloaded FileBot and ran it on all the episodes, renamed them to the same TVDB format Elijah_Baley stated, and while it did condense the 3 season entries into the correct 2 seasons, Plex STILL insist on naming the series as “Season 01” and “Season 02” (matching the subfolder names as I added a zero to the season #).

Hopefully someone can see something wrong with the logs I posted above. Otherwise, I can only think this is either (A) a glitch with the latest Plex update, or (B) Plex really dislikes the show “Blindspot” now and refuses to recognize it at all.

I have my file named as follows and it matches up fine.

blindspot/season 2/blindspot - s02e01.mkv

Kevin.

I haven’t looked at your log yet but what folder does your library point to? From the symptoms it sounds like you have it pointed to the Blindspot folder, when it should point to your TV Show folder.

No, I have a 4TB drive dedicated to TV Shows only, which has a main “_TV Shows” folder and a “_TV Shows Kids” (for the kids cartoons.) Each has subfolders for the individual TV series, then subfolders the next level down dividing separate seasons (Season, Season 2, etc.) Plex still picks up all new episodes as added in all the other series folders. This one series is the only one giving me problems. All other series (95 total) are named similarly and match fine.

Well, this must be a glitch in the latest version of Plex. I was FINALLY able to fix it and Plex now sees the series and episodes and auto matches correctly.

I had to re-name the main “Blindspot” folder as “Blind Spot” (two words). Then it was all good, now lists the series in my library (as “Blindspot”, one word.) Hopefully one of the developers see this thread and can see what cause the problem.
