Unable to open Plex. Corrupt database. Need help, please

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

Hello

Yesterday there was a power failure and my computer didn’t shut down properly. I started the computer again without problems, everything works perfectly, but when I opened Plex I found this surprise:

Corrupted database
Plex Media Server was unable to open its media database.

Suddenly, Plex closes, so I can’t open Plex to change the settings.

How could I fix this and make Plex works again?

There are several articles to fix corrupted databases, but I don’t quite understand them. I would appreciate if someone could tell me the necessary steps, as easy as possible, please. I am attaching here the logs, for the day the crashed started, today November 20, 2022

Please, click on this link to access to the logs:

I would appreciate your help. I have the entire catalog of movies and series there and this had to happen with December just around the corner.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/repair-a-corrupted-database/ is the guide for repairing the database.

The easiest way to fix your issue is to close plex, and restore a backup. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases should contain files that look like com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-2022-11-12 and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2022-11-12

Then you rename com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db by adding .old to the name. IE com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db.old Then pick the most recent date where both the blobs and library files both exist, and remove the -2022-11-12 date part.

EDIT:
PS: you will loose any view history, and database changes since that backup, but that should be a minor inconvenience

Hi dbirch,
I did what you said, but although I have opened Plex and it showed my movies catalog, the TV series catalog is not shown and Plex close again. It says my server is not available.

I did this exactly:

I renamed to .old all the files you said with the date

com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-year-month-day
and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-year-month-day

I also removed the date part to the most recent files of the same files, which in my case were

com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-2022-11-18
and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2022-11-18

but I already had files without the date (please, see the red arrows with the screenshot), so I removed the previous files

com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db
and
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db

In order to allow these files

com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-2022-11-18
and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2022-11-18

can be renamed… otherwise I would get

com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db
com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db (2)

com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db (2)

As I already had com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db before renaming com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db-2022-11-18 and com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2022-11-18

Please, see the screenshot

Now what I have is this

If I open Plex normally, it is not able to connect to the server.

If I open Plex with administrator’s rights, it opens but I got also a connection error (see this screenshot)

It says my server CYGNUSPC01 is not availale currently.
Verify that you have an Internet connection and that the server be online or just take a look to our notes to solve the problems and get more help.

RETRY CONNECTION.

It is retrying connection always, but it nevers connect.

I don’t mind if I have to start from scratch and I lose all the databases. I can re-scan again everything, but I need Plex run again.

  • How may I start from scratch with Plex?

  • I would like to clean everything, even if I lose my databases and re-scan again everything.

How may I do this?

I have restored the folder as it was intially.

I think the best is to start from scratch, I don’t mind if I lose all my libraries of movies and TV series, because I can re-scan them again.

  • How may I clean all and start from scratch?

  • Should I uninstall Plex and install it again?

  • Should I create a new user?

Should I delete all the old date in the folder C:\Users<PC_USER_NAME>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server

If you want to start over see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/ make sure you delete both the registry keys and appdata folder after uninstalling plex

If you mean your account at plex.tv, do not do so. It will not help.

Your account at plex.tv has nothing to do with problems such as a corrupt database.

Also, if you delete your account at plex.tv, there is a 30 day lock on creating a new account with the same e-mail address.

Also, if you are running Windows 10 64-bit, then install the 64-bit version of Plex Media Server.

Windows 10 Settings → System → About → System Type
