Unable to perform tuner lock

Hi everyone

I’m looking for new software to replace my successfull-but-depreciating TV Mosaic.

I’m trying out the Plex Media Server with Live DVR.
Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112 (Windows 10)
Tuner: Hauppauge, WinTV-soloHD (USB)

Error in “Plex Tuner Service.log”:
Aug 03, 2020 15:14:40.767 [12768] INFO - [I] CTVSChannelScanner::Tune. Wait for lock timeout
Aug 03, 2020 15:14:40.767 [12768] WARN - [E] dvb_channel_scanner_t::do_scan_attempt. Tune failed for 142500,V,6111,QAM256
Aug 03, 2020 15:14:40.768 [12768] INFO - [I] channel_scanner_t::scan_channels. Scanned 1 transponder out of 1. Channels found 0

Note that there is NO timeout between the “Wait for lock …” and the “Tune failed”!

OBS:

  • The tuner works perfectly with TV Mosaic- and Hauppauge WinTV 10 software.
  • TV Mosaic is de-activated in windows services and WinTV 10 is not running.
  • Plex Media Server is running as Administrator

What to do ?

Best regards
Martin

I have never personally used any of the USB tuner devices but this note is included on the Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas Support Article:

Windows: “WinTV 8” (for WinTV tuners) or “AVerMedia TVBox” (for AVerMedia tuners) software might conflict with Plex Media Server’s use of the tuner. If you have issues tuning channels, please remove this software, install only the driver for your tuner, then attempt to scan channels again.

So I would suggest uninstalling the WinTV software and only install the drivers for the device. That has typically resolved the issue for users in the past.

Thanks for the response :slight_smile:
But, no success. I tried …

  • Removing WinTV 10 software
  • Re-installing Tuner drivers
  • Rebooting (ensuring TV Mosaic software is not running)
  • PMS, Live DVR, DVR Setup, Scan channels (only one transponder active)

Result: “No channels found. Make sure …”

And the tuner log (attached) states:
Aug 04, 2020 10:01:23.738 [10072] INFO - [I] CTVSChannelScanner::Tune. Wait for lock timeout
Aug 04, 2020 10:01:23.738 [10072] WARN - [E] dvb_channel_scanner_t::do_scan_attempt. Tune failed for 142500,V,6111,QAM256 (OBS: there are two commas before QAM256!)

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-08-04_10-06-22.zip (120.0 KB)

Tried with a fresh-PC (no TV Mosaic, no Win TV, fresh Tuner driver).
The result was exactly the same:
“CTVSChannelScanner::Tune. Wait for lock …”, “dvb_channel_scanner_t::do_scan_attempt. Tune failed”
… within the same millisecond.

(note: PMS is running as Administrator)

I have no experience with the USB tuners and don’t have one to do any testing. One error I am seeing in the Plex Media Server log is:

Aug 04, 2020 10:00:32.880 [1968] ERROR - DVR:Device: Error refreshing existing device device://tv.plex.grabbers.tunerservice/dvb%23bda%23usb%23vid_2040%26pid_8265%230014120191%23, marking as dead.

The marking as dead error is mentioned in the latest beta release of PMS Release Notes as a fix:

You could try the latest beta release to see if that solves the issue. If that doesn’t work I might have to see if there is an Employee or other Ninja that has experience with the USB tuners.

Installed Beta release 1.20.0.3133 on fresh PC (i.e. Windows 10 PC, without TV Mosaic and WinTV).
Same result - see attached log.

Chatting with Employee. Are you using dvbc or dvbt?

I’m using DVB-C only.
Trying to tune:
142500,V,6111,QAM256
(OBS: Two comma’s before QAM256)

The tuner locks fine using other software (TV Mosaic, WinTV 10).

The Employee I was chatting with said there is currently an issue with that specific tuner model and dvb-c. Apparently Hauppauge is testing a fix for it. He did say there is a fix in a development build but the one he has is an old one. He is not sure how quickly he could get a newer development build.

Sounds good.
Thanks for the quick- and good response.
Looking forward to get hold of the specific build.

Hello, just got the Plex Pass as I am trying to get my Haupauge Tuner going and I get the same lock error. CTVSChannelScanner::Tune. Wait for lock timeout. Is this something being worked, or I have other problems? Windows 10, HVR-2255 pci card.

but I couldn’t quite get whether it is a development build at Hauppauge or Plex.

I have the same problem with the new plex server 1.20 is there a way to get the 1.19 version to rebuild my server to a working system

Having the exact same issue with my DualHD. Just sent Hauppauge a message requesting for more information. Will update here if I receive anything useful.

On Windows you can find older versions at:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates

First uninstall.

I am having the same exact problem. Do you guys have any progress or news on this !?

Thanks

I got hold of an old HDHomeRun Dual DVB-C tuner which serves the signal to PMS via LAN. It works perfectly. But, I would’nt mind being able to utilize my Hauppauge WinTV USB tuner as well. Somebody mentioned a “Haupauge tuner fix” is coming in a future release (see above).

Same problem here with soloHD. Other tuner working fine. (NextPVR) I’m using the latest beta version (1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c)

Here’s my tuner logs

For me the issue was resolved in version 4.34.4. My DualHD now works just fine with DVB-C in the Netherlands.

Hi Mr. Broek,

which version do you mean? My plex media server is on version 1.21.1.3830 and i am still having this issue…

Regards,

O.
