Everything was ok but after updating I’m unable to play anything on my PC. I get the following error message :
Playback Error
There was an unexpected error during playback. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems.
Works again after a server reboot.
Not for me, rebooted server twice. Nothing plays in the web app. I did run the Plex app [never did that before] and it works there. I had to restart chrome to get the web app to run.
yup i have the same issue i just rolled the update back and everything is functioning now
I like to wait 2-3 days before I update. Let someone else find the bugs
I have been getting that message as well as:
“This server is not powerful enough to convert video”
after this latest update.
I fail to see the purpose of the plex team constantly tinkering with the backend code to improve something when they have achieved many stable versions of late. After rolling back to v1.16 following the last update of 1.18.8.2527, which caused so many problems, just to try the new public “yet again flawed” release is frustrating to say the least. Bad enough being forced to isolate, but a primary tool for entertainment is constantly going down? Just because somebody said we can “re-invent the wheel better!” I mean c’mon plex team…
I now have to redo my OS to get plex 1.16 back on my machine just to watch stable tv, I shouldn’t have to do that as a paid subscriber, neither should anybody else. if the software would roll back easily np, but after this newest update, at least on my I3 machine, it doesn’t. Stop fixing things that aren’t broke! At least not until virtually all known bugs are resolved.
If this continues I foresee a possible drop in plex pass users.
Success here. I was having the same error on every movie, even after restarting Plex. I had to log out of Plex in Chrome/Firefox and re-login. Problem solved.
I go step further. After they screwed-up quicksync on apollo lake, I now only update for noticeable improvements in the change log. Don’t fix what’s not broken
And if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it. AMIRITE?
Well, lucky the ones that are back online. As for me until this update all was good, my samsung was playing PLEX, now…silence…nothing…waits and waits then it kicks out without any fault?
The server works well, I can view all the programs on my phone, pc’s and amazon tv. Nothing for my samsung… Any Ideas? BTW I did remove, re-install, all the normal stuff.
How do we revert to an earlier ver of Plex?
Download plex 1.16, I put it on my cloud for myself and it seems more people need it, so click on or copy/ paste link and it will start a direct download. Uninstall your current version of plex and then install v 1.16, it will retain your settings. Your web player will still be upgraded but the server will roll back and solve most, if not all your problems.

Hi cu2,
Thanks alot for your answer. This is 32 b ver. do you have a 64b?
Thank you cu2
This is the windows installer for 32/ 64 bit. I was using this on win 7 64 before upgrading to win 10/ 64. As far as I am aware there is no dedicated 64 bit version.
