“Unable to play media” on Shield Pro out of the blue!

I am also having this issue. I uninstalled the Plex app updates, which seems to have worked.

How do you update the NVIDIA SHIELD Plex server version?

In the Google Play store app on your Shield, go to “My Apps” and see if any need updating. When I did it yesterday, Plex Server had a pending update, which when installed fixed the issue…

@mrmartineau it seems that doesn’t work for me. I did exactly that and still got the “Unable to play media” error. Had to uninstall updates and sign up again.

Anyone get this resolved other than installing Kodi?

Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet?

When can I install the latest updates with peace of mind that this has been solved?

I still have the same problem on my Nvidia Shield Pro, everytime the app updates I’m no longer able to stream my media. Sometimes I’m able to stream one file but as soon as I exit the app and get back in it stops working.

Terribly annoying and frustrating to say the least.

I have two shield devices and Plex loaded on each of them. I found I could not play my video (movies) on one. I messed w/ it for quite some time. Then I went to the other shield and it seemed to work just fine. I was thinking that maybe it was the hookup between my shield and receiver, so I swapped them. The one that was working - still worked in the new location and the one that did not, still did not. So I uninstalled the Plex updates, reinstalled them on the one that was not working - and that seemed to fix it. Then the one that was working, stopped playing music files. Or rather it would show that it was busy, but there was not audio. So, I uninstalled the updates and reinstalled the updates - and that fixed it. But I have noticed that when I open an album, I will get the error that it cannot play the media. If I scroll down, I can play the individual files. I might be wrong, but I think this latest Plex update is not working so very well.

Anyone been able to figure out a way around this? I’m getting a little frustrated having to uninstall the update all the time.

Ok. I have been having the same problem, so today I uninstalled the updates within Google Play as suggested by others above, which did make it work but with the old user interface and without the new features. Then I reinstalled the updates, linked the account as requested via my pc, then I was asked, on the Shield, whether I wanted to use their new media player!! To which I declined, and lo and behold the player put in place is just like the one you get when you have uninstalled the updates, and which works fine with all the media that the thing hasn’t been able to play recently.

So the bottom line, is we have been used as guinea pigs for a media player in beta, which the blurp says is faster and better etc., and which is not for some reason.

To keep it working, it might be an idea to stop apps auto updates within Settings within Google Play.

Hope it helps.

Go to settings -> advanced and disable new video player.
Unfortunately it re-enables automatically quite frequently…
