“Unable to play media” on Shield Pro out of the blue!

This happened out of the blue…I use Plex all the time so I am really bummed. Plays/streams music fine but receive Unable to Play Media when trying to stream video files.

Any Ideas? I have read the older thread with someone having the same problem but there was no solution given and they had older versions of the app.

BTW…I am attempting to update Plex Media Server on my Shield Pro…It’s taking a Loooong time. How long does it take typically to update Media Server?

Same here this morning. Reinstalled app and updated android to latest, still same error. Shield Pro worked great when left last week. Something has definitely changed. Came back from vacation after 7 days and now this error for everything on my Synology.

Exactly!!! Sorry to hear you’re having the same issue! Are there any better forums out there to search for answers? It doesn’t seem like this one is very active.

I am about to snap this Shield Pro in half…I can’t figure out how to fully uninstall Plex. PMS does not update!!!

Is there a better option out there to stream local media??!!!

So frustrated with this POS app and hardware.

BTW, I have other devices on the system, my Samsung TV has the app, it’s fine, just the Shield Pro.

Same issue for me, today. Kodi with the plex add-on works fine, but I can’t play anything through the Plex app. It appeared to have updated last night (and worked fine), but today I just get the “unable to play media” message.

Same for me on Shield today, I am unable to play any media since yesterday. There was another update on the app store I just installed as I thought maybe there was a hotfix, but still unable to use Plex on Shield at all.

I am so mad at this point. I just want to watch a movie and have spent all day on this. Did a full reset on Shield pro to try to get PMS to upgrade. …soooooo crappy. Please someone recommend a more reliable setup here, Plex and a shield pro are junk. I am going through the TEDIOUS and frustrating process of accessing shared network files on it…and they probably won’t even play.

Does Plex even support anyone!!!???

Here’s my recommendation, install Kodi. I just installed it in 2 minutes and everything works fine. Back to watching movies :slight_smile:

Hello,

I have got the same issue today whereas everything was working fine yesterday.
This is not an issue with Plex Server as I have no issue playing media using my Ipad or even my PC.
I hope that we can find a fix soon.

I am having the same issue. For a few days now I can’t cast from my phone to my Chromecast- “unable to play media”. Why is this happening?? My wife’s phone still works though, so is it specific devices? I have a OnePlus 5 phone

Mine doing the same. Went into App Store and uninstalled updates. Working for me now. My guess latest update borked it.

I also am having the same issue on my Nvidia Shield.

Same issue here. Uninstalling updates to the PLEX app worked for me as a temporary fix.

Can concur uninstalling updates from the Google App store fixed the issue. Hoping the updates are fixed soon.

FYI updating to the latest Plex server version fixed the issue for me
