About a week ago I got back from a week long vacation. Before I left Plex was working perfectly fine, all of my content was playing back as expected. When I got back, I noticed the Plex app had updated as I was prompted to select the layout I would like to use. Now, all of a sudden, Android TV clients can no longer play back content reliably for me.
I’ve been using Plex since the 0.x versions, and have tried every possible fix I could think of. I am remotely streaming from a 1Gbps dedicated fiber connection so my setup is not on-prem.
I have a Shield Pro in my living room, and 2 Chromecast 4K’s hooked up to other TV’s. The versions of Plex on there have stopped playing content that used to play just fine (constant buffering/crashing).
All of my users/clients with Roku devices have no issues, Plex on iOS, no issues, Plex for Kodi Add-On, flawless (running on the said Shield), and lastly Web playback runs just fine. I am left to believe there is an issue with the current release, the problem is, I’ve sideloaded Plex versions back to 8.19.3 and still experience the same issues.
Any help would be appreciated. I’ve been watching in Plex Dash, Tautulli, and Plex’s own dashboard and when I attempt to play content from the Shield it doesn’t even register as a play back item.
Happy to provide logs - just let me know what is needed.
EDIT: Have recently tried a full reset of the Shield, no change. I did notice content less than or equal to 720p starts playing just fine as direct play. It’s content greater than 1080p that just spins out even though I 100% have the bandwidth for it (again, the same content that spins in Plex plays fine in Kodi without buffering).
Thanks!
