Unable to play movies if remotely connection

Server Version#: 1.32.3.7162
Player Version#: Android 9.25.0.2228

I am trying to play videos from the Android app connected to my Plex Server on a Synology NAS DS216J. I am able to play video when the phone is connected over the local wifi network, but not when it is connected to the 4G network (ie. external connection).

I have enabled remote access in the Plesk Server with a manual 32400 port and forwarded this TCP port on my router to the Synology NAS.

There is no firewall enabled on the NAS.

The video shows a rotating ticker and after a while comes up with an error: An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.

Log from the server is attached.

Thanks.

So… you can access the server remotely but you can’t stream remotely?

Do you have configured your server not to allow transcoding? If the client depends on the video to be transcoded, that’ll cause the streaming to fail.

The Synology DiskStation DS216j (DS216J) Small office / Home office NAS released in 2016. It is powered by Marvell Armada 385 88F6820 dual-core @ 1 GHz CPU and 512 MB RAM

Depending on what you’re trying to play, transcoding might not be an option even if it’s enabled

Please consider:

Regrettibly, it never passed the verification to support transcoding.
It’s not strong enough nor does it have enough memory.

Direct Play -or- (at most) DirectStream

Synology DS216j ARMv7 (Armada 385) 1.0GHz No No No No No No No No No No No No

I tried disabling transcoding in the server settings, and it still did not work.

What fixed it was setting “Remote Streaming Quality” in the app to “Maximum”.

Thanks for your help. Looks like I need to set up some better hardware.
