Unable to play or record Live TV

Thank you - excellent diagnostics

No problem - hopefully it will help to get this issue fixed quickly!

The tuner appears to be taking a while to come back with the stream - There may have been a new timeout introduced. Without the two rawcap captures for the curl.exe run and plex failure, it would not have been obvious what the issue was

I have a release candidate build to make available to you both to confirm if the issue is fixed. Let me know which binary you need and I will send you a link

Oh great - what do you mean by which binary?

I’m running Windows 10 if that helps.

sent you a link for 1.13.9.5456

Same issue I’m afraid. Would you like logs?

It did have the transcoder error on the recording. But I just looked again and it was gone and it had the “Play” icon button, so I clicked it and it had recorded. I also couldn’t watch live tv before, got an error, however I’ve tried again now and things seem to be recording and I can watch live tv.

So maybe it is better.

The timeout was increased from 5 seconds to 15 seconds (based on all evidence seen from all users that provided logs - longest delay observed on tune was 10 seconds)

I guess first time around it took more than 15 seconds, maybe it’s because the server had just started up. Seems to be working at the moment. I’ll leave this version in and keep you updated on how it goes.

It has now been released

The unable to tune errors due to the 5 second timeout seen mostly on PCIe and USB tuners (and also on networked tuners to an extent) has now been addressed in release 1.13.9.5456 which extended the timeout to 15 seconds

See Plex Media Server

  • (DVR) Extend initial timeout value for live TV tunes to avoid giving up on a tune too early (#9211)

Does this mean the issue I was having with TV having Playback Errors over the web for host users will be sorted also? I thought it was a Transcode issue??
I’ll give it some extensive testing over the next 24 hours, and get my users via the web to stream the channel that was causing the issue to see if everything is all good… Will report back with my findings…

Dave

I don’t think I have looked at your logs yet.

The issue that is addressed is the tune errors due to a 5 second timeout

Hi @sa2000,
The tune error only came up for me after 12 hours of running the latest version, but a swift reboot of the PC cured it, and so far so good even with 2 or more Live TV streams going on at the same time it hasn’t dropped to “Playback Error” yet, but only time will tell I suppose?
If and when you get chance to check my logs, can you let me know what the issue is or was I was having? Plex is an integral part of the household here now, especially with 2 kids streaming plus sharing the server over the internet to my Parents and 3 year old son when he’s with his Mom, it not great when the channel just drops for what they think is no reason, but I understand a little about Transcoding etc.

Dave

@sa2000 Seems I spoke to soon!! I’ve had a “Playback Error” on the latest version of Plex while running one channel on it’s own, and it’s the channel my 3 year old watches. Now not sure if it’s Remote dropping out or the Transcoding, if anyone of the Dev’s can point me in the direction?
Here’s my logs from the latest Error…

Dave
