Unable to play videos with DTS audio

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: 3.77.4
OS: CentOS 7.6
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-24_00-56-54.zip (1.7 MB)

When trying to play any video with DTS audio I get an error “Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.”

I see errors in the logs about “Codecs: Failed to download XML for codec h264_decoder” that may or may not be related. I can play other h264 videos that have other audio Codecs.

I cannot play with the web client in any browser, in the Android app or to a Chromecast.

I have attached my logs.

Thank you.

P.S. this may or may not be related but if I try to go to https:// plex . tv in my browser I get a security error that the certificate belongs to bizzby . com (sorry for the weird syntax but I got an error that I can’t put links in a post.)

It appears you have a certificate in the sequence somewhere.

PMS does not allow or support a certificate to come between it and Plex.tv

This is why it cannot download the codecs.

Notice the “local issuer” part. This invalidated everything.

It appears to be a DNS issue. Using the default DNS from my ISP returned different results than those from Google’s DNS 8.8.8.8 so I switched the server and the client trying to play over to Google’s DNS then everything started working.

That’s interesting. I will keep that in my book of things to try.

I am surprised an ISP would mess with the DNS

I’m not sure of how the mechanics of AWS works but I imagine it’s something to do with that. Maybe the ISP caches the DNS too long or something and that throws it off. DNS would also explain why I would get the https ssl errors. I was actually getting redirected to the random other AWS hosted sites. So their cert didn’t match up with the site name in the browser (plex.tv)
