Unable to record from dvr using hdhomerun tuner

hi all
I’m running the latest plex on a win 10 pc and a hdhomerun tuner, having previously had great success using a single usb tuner i decided to go out and upgrade to a 4 tuner hdhomerun device.

im currently able to watch tv fine but seem to be unable to record. on pressing save in the dvr record menu i get an error (failed to save try again later) and in the dvr schedule page i see no upcoming airings even though i know there are.

I’ve deleted the dvr numerous times. logged out and back in. updated plex. re started plex. checked for hdd space and now I’m at a loss.

i tend to prefer solving my own issues but this has me stumped so any help would be very much appreciated

As for helping yourself… have you already taken a look at your server logs to see any obvious lines tagged as ERROR? Plex failing to write some changes usually means a temporary lock-up (which could be overcome by a reboot of the server – which you already did) or a more severe issue (e.g. database corruption or system HDD running out of capacity / messed up server data directory).

Edit: given there’s a number of releases available (e.g. public vs. beta) you could get better feedback by including which exact version of PMS you have installed

plex 1.24.0.4930
i am getting errors in the tuner log but its something i dont understand

Aug 17, 2021 16:49:56.829 [15740] WARN - [E] web_service_t::get_device_status. get_device_info returned error for device dvb#bda#0#@device:pnp:\?\usb#vid_15f4&pid_0131&mi_01#6&3a74ecc6&0&0001#{71985f48-1ca1-11d3-9cc8-00c04f7971e0}{9d4afc32-0f42-45d9-b590-af9295699871}

I’ve found a few threads with similar error messages. Users in those threads claim that triggering the configuration through the Plex for Windows desktop client did the trick for them – at least as a workaround. I’m not using DVR myself so I cannot give you much guidance as for why this is happening of if/when this is being fixed.

thanks tom you’ve been more than helpful, what did you search to find the previous posts, searching my error log comes up with just my post.

searched in quotes, results sorted by latest post

Have a look in your Plex Media Server.log file (or upload your logs here) and see if you have any references to a “corrupt” or “malformed” database. If your database were corrupt it’s possible that you could view live TV but be unable to schedule a recording.

Plex Media Server.log (248.3 KB)
Plex Tuner Service.log (4.6 KB)

thanks i really appreciate the assistance.
im unsure what im looking at but do see errors. ive tried uninstalling today but that hasn’t helped. how do i go about creating a new database?

There’s fortunately nothing in the logs provided to suggest database corruption. You can double check to be certain by following “Check for Corruption” steps in this support article.

Assuming that checks out, there’s no reason to think a database issue is causing the problem; it was just an idea, based on the symptoms.

Finding plex really frustrating at the moment,
I’m really appreciative of the help I’ve been given by the community and I’ve learnt a lot along the way but unfortunately plex is still failing me and the lack of official support is poor to say the least… this is a shame as I’ve been a big advocate of the plex system up until now.
over the last week I’ve reinstalled plex four times, repaired my database once. Wiped my database and started a fresh once, re configured the dvr and tuner six times+, deleted and cleared space and I’m still unable to utilise the dvr and record anything.
Will upload my latest log for one last attempt before I unfortunately have to take my subscription elsewhere

I’m using plex 1.24.1.4931
On a Windows 10 based server
Ryzen 7 3700x
16gb ram
789gb free on c:
3.26tb free on my spare hdd
Connected via ethernet to a hdhomerun 4tuner with up to date firmware

I’m able to view live tv streams but unable to record in any way at all.

Will post full log files in next post
Thanks

And now you have database corruption:

I would first shut down Plex and remove all the tv.plex.providers.epg.cloud* files, Plex will rebuild when you restart.

If you still see ERROR - SQLITE3: messages in the Plex Media Server.log then try repairing the main DB via the repair db instructions.

hi is there anything that can be causing this as it was a clean install and brand new database when i called the log file

If the hard drive has an underlying issue or compatibility problem with the OS or motherboard. Check for bios update for board or drive if SSD.

Updating Plex Media Server in rapid succession. Don’t run the beta versions unless you are explicitly told to. Sometimes it needs to go through a full maintenance cycle to complete all the version upgrade tasks.

Windows, people like to put their machines to sleep. Plex isn’t coded to handle this so sometimes it doesn’t.
