I have used this for many years now successfully, something has changed. Now when I send an invitation, the recipient get pop up ads that keep coming up about “plex pass”, then it tells them they need to download Plex Media Server, and it’s extremely confusing to non tech types.
But now it’s gotten worse. Now, when they finally get past all that, you get to a screen that says “looking for servers…” and it spins forever.
My server is online and working fine. I have shared it with people all over the world, no problems. Something else is broken.
I setup a test account to verify this is happening, and it is. Old accounts shared years ago continue to work. New accounts just say “Looking for servers…”.
Also, new users continue to say “pending” on the plex users console. Even days after they have been sent an invite and signed up.
When users are sent an invite email with the “I accept the invitation.” link, and need to create an account to do so, the “acceptance” is lost during the sign up process. So once they created their account, they need to re-click the “I accept the invitation.” link in the email they received.
Either you instruct them to do so, or you first send them a link asking them to create an account (https://www.plex.tv/sign-up/), and once they confirmed they created an account, then you can invite them.
I see you are correct, this worked, thank you.
I still have a whole page of complaints about the sign up process. First I need to send these instructions to my friend…
