Hmm, an invite error... Sorry, an error happened when accepting the invitation''

Hi all,

First, it’s insane that I can’t find any way to write to Plex Support, so if you have a chat link or an email, please do share.

Well, it’s in the title, I have about 7 peoples accessing my Plex content, but now all that I send an invite to, get the same message: Hmm, an invite error…
Sorry, an error happened when accepting the invitation’’

They have all created an account before accepting, and I have a Plex Lifetime Pass, what is the issue???

You get the error when sending the invite? The message says “accepting”.

No, it’s the recipient that get it.
I read that it might be linked to the recipient has to sign up (with email used in invite), and then click on the sign in link from the invite.
That’s when they ALL get that message.
I have 7 users that managed to accept the invitation but since those 7 all new users get that message.
Any solutions?

I’m getting it too.

Possible workaround: After the user creates a new plex.tv account, deleting the invite and inviting them again seems to work.

This appears the issue is on the Plex.tv side.

Thanks will try!

There could be an issue if the user that gets the invite creates a new Plex account with a different email than the one the invite was sent to. i.e. you send the invite to bob@gmail.com. Bob receives the email, clicks the link which takes them to the Plex website to create an account. They create a Plex account under bob2@gmail.com. The invite won’t work anymore.

Can you PM me the email address for one of these people that this isn’t working for?

This is a real bug. It’s a recent regression - from the past few weeks. It’s probably affecting your user growth.

Repro:

  1. On the web app, sign in as the admin of a server.
  2. Go to Sharing settings
  3. Invite
  4. Enter the email address of a user who doesn’t have a Plex account
  5. Share some libraries with them
  6. Send
  7. Sign out everywhere or open a private browser window
  8. Visit app.plex.tv
  9. Create a new account with the email address provided. (Plex account or Google; it repros for both)
  10. Visit your Sharing settings in the Plex web app. The invitation is not there. (BUG 1)
  11. Open the sharing invitation email that was sent
  12. Click Accept in the sharing invitation email
  13. “Sorry, an error happened when accepting the invitation.” appears when clicking the link. (BUG 2)

The only way to recover from this is for the server admin to cancel the invitation and send a new one.

This has happened with the last 2 users I have tried to invite.

This just happened to me as well. Obviously it’s a bug. Canceling the invite and resending seems to work, but hopefully someone looks in to this.

Chiming in to say I’m seeing this as well, with the same workarounds posted above.

Thanks all. Yes, if it does happen to you, follow this step by step
1- User creates a Plex account (if he doesn’t already have one)
2- ONLY when the account is created, the usr to be added gives the email used to create his Plex account.
3- Send invite, user clicks on the link

Voila.

Getting this issue also, sent multiple invites but they get the error every time. Has anyone found a solution?

I am also getting the error.

I’m a plex lifetime member… they are new users. I have tried multiple times to invite…no luck.

I’m running into this problem as well. The user that is getting the error gets it regardless of how many times I cancel his invite and send him a new one

Same problem here also. Any work arounds?

The work around is to have your friends create a Plex account before you send the invite.

Regardless of order of invite vs account creation, I am now seeing this issue as well. A month ago, I upgraded to Plex Lifetime Pass, and my first new user since them can’t connect correctly.

Can’t connect or can’t accept the invite. The current issue has to do with accepting the invite. If the invitation part works but they can’t access your server, that’s a different issue. Please start a new thread with details.

Yea… I am talking about the invite being accepted to allow connectivity. He has an account now. He account errors out in the invite acceptance process.

The work around above does not work for me. I have tried 4 or 5 attempts at inviting him, after he created the account. All have fail to accept invite.

  1. Have the user create the Plex account.
  2. Send the user the invite.
  3. Have the user sign into their account on the default browser of the device they will check their email and accept invite.
  4. Click invite link and everything should be fine. I use this process every time and never had an issue.
  5. If this fails, see steps 1 - 4.
