Unable to sync to device to different users

Server Version#: 1.22.0.4163
Player Version#: 7.14
iPhone: 8
iOS: 14.4

Even if one of my managed users, which originally was able to sync, deletes all of their synced items on my iPhone, another user is presented with the following message

another user has synced content on this device

I went into my server settings > sync with my main account, in the drop down listing I only see my iPhone and iPad and nothing in either of the sync list.

However, when I go into my other managed user account, the sync listing is filled with many duplicated entries for my iPhone and iPad. Note: I did check on my authorized devices and I only have one of each as well.

When I do through the first two listed devices (not the duplicates) the messaging says…

Nothing is synced to this device.

Oddly enough though when I go into the duplicates it says…

<device> was last seen a month ago. Syncing will resume next time you launch Plex on this device.

I recreated the managed user, which did obviously get rid of the duplicate entries (as there are no entries on a new account).

When I go to sync something directly from an item with this new user, there is no sync button (which seems to be the case on all other users other than the original account which synced in the first place). Going into the Downloads & Sync > Manage it gives me the exact same message noted at the top of this thread.

It almost seems that something in the database got corrupted/stuck over time. I will most likely go through the following later today…

I will also probably try deleting and re-adding the Plex app on my devices but in the meantime does anyone have any other suggestions and/or have seen this before?

Thanks

Update

I went through the db cleanup but that didn’t seem to resolve the issue. It’s ok though b/c it is more like early spring cleaning

When I re-installed the Plex app to my iPhone, I was able to sync with the new managed user again. Unfortunately, I was able to reproduce the inability for others to sync even if no users have synced content on this device.

Steps

  1. Re-install the Plex app
  2. Setup the main and managed users home pages
  3. Go to the managed user
  4. Sync a music file
  5. Navigate to the main account
  6. Go to the Downloads & Sync > Managed area…it will state that another user has synced content on this device (which is expected)
  7. Go back to the managed user and delete the music file and confirm the page says that there is no synced content
  8. Go back to the main account and the Downloads & Sync > Managed area, same message as above

This seems to be a bug that once a user does any sync on a specific device, there is either some flag set (either on the device or the underlying db) which the code checks to disable any other syncing which does not get removed/reset when all synced items are cleared or the actual synced entry is not removed from the back end (as the UI is showing nothing).

Is a dev able to confirm this?

For any devs that come across this…I did generate some logging when I open the Plex app and see an error on the Downloads & Sync section.

So it does appear that the Plex app is holding onto something as it stated it had an error removing the content from the db.

A couple of things…

  • for privacy, I changed my server name to [servername] and IP:port to [localip:port] in the above logs
  • there is a cloud check but I don’t have the cloud setup (that was decommissioned years ago…unless it is just a generic term in the logs?)

Just pinging this issue to once again see if anyone has seen this before?

+1 here
I’m having the exact same issue, both tested on iPad and on iPhone.
Error-Message for every User ( Managed and Main Plex Pass User ) on the Download & Sync Section although earlier synced content is 100% deleted.
Would be nice to hear some details from the Plex-Team if this Error is already known.

As this post has had no movement and it appears that sync will be replaced by the new downloads…

…I will mark this as the solution (as I am not sure of an alternative to closing this).
