Unable to Tune any channels using HDhomerun Prime on Plex

Server Version#: Version 1.22.2.4282
Player Version#: Version 4.55.0
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun Prime
Guide/Lineup name: Verizon Freehold/NY
Using XMLTV?: NO
Channel number/Name: ALL

Hello all. I’m new to the plex/NAS/Synology world and need some help. I have a Synology DS220j with Plex server installed and I have installed movies on it. I love the fact I can watch these from anywhere. So when I found that Plex can play live TV I figured I would jump in and with some research I found the HDHomeRun Prime. Got a new one from their limited production run last month. And after 3 phone calls to Verizon, I was able to finally get a CableCard delivered. Great…But not really. I installed the card, updated HDHomerun Prime firmware, activated the cable card. Then added the HDHomerun Prime to Plex. Then waited and waited and waited for the guide to update. Took over an hour. Then when I went to tune a channel on Plex, any channel, it would’t tune. Got “Playback Error, could not tune channel”. Also unable to tune on iOS Plex. So I downloaded the HDHomerun App and I can tune all channels on that. I removed and remounted the HDHomerun Prime on Plex and rescanned all channels. Same result. BTW the guide just takes a ridiculously long time to generate (Again an hour) when adding the unit on.
So what am I missing? Or what do I need to do to get Plex to tune?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

so i was just having this issue. I thought it was an issue with my HDHOMERUN tuners but they work ok in my windows app. I rebooted the HDHOMERUN devices, still got the same "Playback Error, could not tune channel” message.
I rebooted the Plex server (ubunut). no change.
I gave up and just went to my plex server settings, then went to “Manage” and then to “live tv and dvr” and clicked on “Delete DVR”.
It doesnt get rid of your recordings, but it does get rid of the settings and scheduled recordings. I didnt care… it does give you a warning, so you can judge if it is worth it.
I then went through the DVR setup wizard and the error message has gone and I can watch live TV now.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. I’ve tried this as well, at least 4 separate times with no success. At this point I’ve wasted to much time trying to get this to work. Perhaps its not meant to work on my NAS. The DS220j from what I understand does not do any transcoding so I’m not sure if I have a hardware issue or software issue. I plan on upgrading to the DS920+ which is significantly more powerful. Perhaps it will work then. For now I will just have to keep my verizon tuner to watch tv or use the HDHomerun app.
Thanks Again!

Can you use the HDHomerun application to watch TV from a mobile device? On a desktop if you type in http://(your hdhomerun ip):5004/auto/v(channel number)?duration=30 do you get something playable? You might need to download VLC to play it. So if my HDHR is ip 192.168.0.5 and I want to record channel 8 I would use http://192.168.0.5:5004/auto/v8?duration=30

If those two things are working then Plex isn’t doing much more than them. If they’re not working then it’s a HDHR issue and not Plex. Does Synology have a firewall that you might need to grant access through? Idk Synology nas, but if there’s a command line you can type wget with the same URL to see if Synology can download the data or not. If it can’t then it’s a problem that needs to be fixed with Synology

You didn’t really say what player you were using. In your first post the version number looks like Plex web.

I have HD home run connects when I first installed them Plex web wouldn’t play anything I would get an error, I think it’s the same one you’re getting not certain.

But other players Plex home theater Plex for Android, Kodi they all played fine. And then after changing some settings at the plex server and a few plex server updates then I noticed Plex web started working at the server for some reason.

When you look at your scheduled DVR shows after they’ve recorded there should be a little play button I wasn’t getting that on Plex web when it didn’t work. So if that’s the place you’re trying to play stuff and getting the error chances are there’s some kind of an issue and maybe searching for that type of player error might help you get things working because I’ve seen people report this same type of problem with Plex web a few times in these forums.

Also I am running a VPN on this server and it helped to turn it off while setting things up until I got it all working.
