Unacceptable plex.tv hosted porn!

No you’re fine, I thought maybe I was losing my mind for a moment

As of now, the metadata section seems to be gone when searching for the same title! (No more of the same results are visable) Hope this was just a small glitch and it is fixed for everyone, thanks BigWheel for getting on it so fast!

Managed users won’t see it. But how does one set a restriction level on the plex.tv user main account?

Are trailers viewable :fearful:

I’m guessing there’s a lot of “Woody” jokes in the porn versions…

What was the filename/folder on those movies? If they were not proper or had added data it can throw off the search tool.

Make sure parental/restriction movie ratings are setup.

PLEX Part 8: PLEX Pass-Home & Parental Controls

Movie Ratings on Accounts/Shares Folder Restrictions.

You’re a bit late to the party, it was a glitch on app.plex.tv causing the issue, a “Metadata” section, which apparently houses prefetched metadata for Plex (the Plex Movie Agent I would imagine), was viewable by users when it shouldn’t have been. It has since been corrected, and parental controls had no effect on whether or not someone could see it…

Well as of February 29th, 2020 this crap was back on my Plex. I paid $150 for Plex to access my own media files, not look at curated crap from a third-party service – especially not pornographic content. Seriously, I expect a permanent fix to this and a public apology.

And for reference, what I am seeing is not screwed up metadata on my files, but Plex.TV movies/TV Shows with pornographic imagery. I have NEVER wanted to stream Plex.TV crap services, and should not have had to deal with this.

Just so we’re clear, this thread was about Metadata that was mistaken for porn, so saying “This crap was back on my plex” indicates that a Metadata section that was supposed to be hidden, that had gone wrong was back on your plex. Which you’re asserting is not the case. So I would suggest making a new post, with screenshots of the offending material, and an explanation of where you’re seeing it.

Secondly, you can turn off ALL of the curated content from within your own account settings, here:
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources

You just disable them all, and all of Plex’s content will go away for your account never to be seen again.

Just so we’re clear the thread title is:

" Unacceptable plex.tv hosted porn!"

This is still unacceptable, and it’s still here.

This time it was on Plex’s “Online Media & Sources” content, which was disabled in settings, but apparently “Disabled for managed users” didn’t mean disabled for my Roku.

So when my nephews loaded up Plex on the TV to watch age-appropriate movies, Plex’s Online Media Sources were displaying porn, despite attempts to disable Plex’s stupid online media sources.

Interesting… can your provide screenshots? I haven’t had issues since the metadata issue was resolved after I started this post and bigwheel passed it on to the devs.

Yes, the OP THOUGHT (much as you’re doing right now) that Plex was hosting porn. But it turned out to be a METADATA section, that was visible ONLY through app.plex.tv. Which you’d have known if you bothered to read the issue to see if it aligned with your issue. Which it obviously does not.

Plex has 0 partnerships with any porn providers, so it’s definitely not showing up there. Perhaps what you’re seeing is a video by Endgadget that is talking about Pornhub creating a VPN, and another Video about a Murdered Porn Star? Because those are definitely Age appropriate and only have the word porn in the title. That was reported yesterday…

Otherwise, as I said, you will have to show pictures of where and what it is…

After full disabling and re-enabling the Online Media Sources, the pornographic content is no longer appearing on my Plex. I did not take the time to screenshot the inappropriate content – I simply went and disabled the worthless online media sources immediately.

Given the other complaints about this, the issue still stands that Plex has screwed up, and needs to take this class of issue seriously.

And no, a video about a “Murdered Porn Star” is not age appropriate… I’m not trying to raise my nephews into being sociopaths either. Would you show a 7 year old a documentary on Ted Bundy? I doubt it.

It was a News report about a Murdered pornstar, much in the same vein of E!, or Access Hollywood type stuff. So, yes, it was age appropriate… And to be quite frank with you, provided there was no tasteless/unecessary nudity, nor swearing, I would indeed show a 7 year old a documentary about just about anything. The more they learn the earlier, the better. African Tribes with breasts hanging out, Documentaries on serial killers and what makes them tick, doesn’t matter, it’s educational and no worse than 1/2 the garbage that comes up on the news on a nightly basis.

Which (other than this thread, which was resolved in a matter of hours, and thankfully was only viewable upon a search via app.plex.tv (which means very little exposure)) have all been unfounded.

This class of issue, so far, is a bust, cause it was probably the two videos I was talking about in my previous post, which are again, completely age-appropriate. It’s certainly not “Family Oriented” content, but it’s acceptable via Youtube and every other public, free, ad-supported streaming services terms, and no different than the crap on broadcast television. So “this class of issue” holds very little water.

I learned everything I know about Women from National Geographic.

Jason,

1, I already had blocked the Other Media Sources for “Managed Users” but still saw this content on my Roku because the UI/UX for turning off that crap service did not indicate it wouldn’t be blocked upon disabling it…

3, It was more than 2 videos, it was several (5+) images similar to the previous screenshots provided by the other poster. It was not either of the videos you mentioned. I could at least understand if it was news content, this was porn.

2, This content was not age appropriate (no professional or family court in the U.S. would agree with this). It looked like hardcore porn. Not National Geographic videos, not trashy Hollywood entertainment shows. Hardcore porn – just like OP saw a month ago.

I’m not a damned bible thumper. I’m a highly annoyed paying customer for a service that is supposed to provide control over what content I want on my TV.

And you clearly do not represent Plex, because no one would be so foolish at to defend this kind of misstep with the way you have. So stop acting like you are the arbiter of whether or not this is an issue. You are not relevant to this discussion.

Unfortunately evan, without screenshots of the offending content, you don’t have a leg to stand on. @JuiceWSA has a Roku, and I am sure he can turn on the online media sources and see if the content you described is there if you’re too shy/annoyed/whatever to actually get to the bottom of it. Again though, Plex has 0 affiliations with porn companies, and all of the content providers in the Online media content are 1 of two types: Big Hollywood Studios (Warner Brothers, Lionsgate, etc.), and places like Bloomberg, Ars Technica, Endgadget, and a bunch of Youtube type content. So, without proof of what you state, we can only assume that the content was legit content mistaken for something else.

I am willing to concede if I am proven wrong, but you’ve made yourself irrelevant to the discussion by not being able to prove your case. So…

No he can’t.

Amazon sent Seasons 1 thru 5 of Family Guy. My Porn Dance Card is filled.

I can suggest the fastest way to get Plex to react - is to disable everything. Internal Logistics sees everything - and with it all off - you will see nothing.

Jason,

You don’t represent Plex, you’re not a developer of Plex. I am reporting that an issue still persists a month later where hardcore pornographic content was being projected on Plex content, despite attempts to fix it. These issues may be related to the metadata bug still.

I’m also reporting that the disabling of Online Media Sources interface is buggy and does not work the way a user would expect it to which was one of the “five why’s” of this errant behavior. If you don’t know what “five why’s” refers to, you are even less relevant to this discussion.

I don’t need to provide “proof” to you, as you are not the arbiter of this or any other business concerns or private user concerns related to this paid service. Your opinions of what is not or is age appropriate is not relevant to this discussion. Proof has already been provided that hardcore pornographic images have been appearing on Plex.

Your attitude towards others is hostile and toxic for an online community. You should not be discounting other people’s concerns of hardcore pornographic content appearing on their devices implying that your assumptions are correct. You are not helping the issue with your attitudes and opinions, nor helping the discovery of the underlying issue that caused this issue to happen.

My first post to you was quite cordial and nice. I explained that YOUR issue, and the issue presented IN THIS THREAD were two different issues, and even advised that you go start a new thread and post what you have. I even pointed you to where in your account you can disable all of the online content so you wouldn’t see it on any of your devices. It wasn’t until you copped attitude and anger, that I pushed back.

This has been further reinforced in this discourse by the fact that this issue in this thread was ONLY visible on http://app.plex.tv in a “Metadata” section, that I suspect was part of the “Plex Agent” being visible to people it wasn’t supposed to be visible to. So, since the Roku does not have access to http://app.plex.tv, and the place you claim it to be is the “Online Media Sources” section, your issue and the OPs issue are not the same. Not to mention, as you’ve already pointed out, this thread is over a month old, and as you can see by reading through the posts above WAS RESOLVED. So you need to create a NEW THREAD, with NEW EVIDENCE, and NEW INFORMATION, to HELP locate the NEW problem.

You’re correct, however, this, as you’ve pointed out, is a COMMUNITY forum, and 99.9% of the technical support will come from… you guessed it… community members such as myself who donate their time to help with issues and solve problems. That’s the majority of what plex support is. If you have a billing issue, there’s a separate section for that, but here on the forums, it’s sort of the wild west.

And your opinions of what is and is not age appropriate is somehow more relevant than mine? We’re both paying customers, and your crap doesn’t stink any less than mine. Get off your high horse man, if anyone has a poor attitude, and has had one since this conversation started, it’s you… check your frustrations at the door if you want problems to be solved.

And now you’re attempting to insult my intelligence? Yet I am the toxic and hostile one… Okay pal…

Umm, just FYI, I did ask you to post pictures and provide more information. To which you have already stated that you removed the offending content and didn’t take pictures… So you can think all you want that I didn’t try to help you, it’s ok, be mad… But maybe you should go through and re-read the conversation between you and I and really reflect on why this went the way it did…
