Unattended installing of updates

I love that plex can now tell me there is an update to install, whats new about it, and even the ability to download the update onto the server, but it just needs the ability to install the update without me having to rdp on and clicking the "Install" button.

I expect it's going this way given how much work has obviously gone into the above, but this last little step would be amazing for a headless server.

Providing that it comes with an option to not auto-install...

This has been discussed before, and the general concensus is that servers should never update unattended. People rather have a stable server than new features when they are far away from home.

There have been a few issues where people have tried updating their server remotely and were aware that the server install required a local keyboard input to finish up.  Here they are 100's of miles from the server and it's hung during the install process and no way to resolve It until they get home.  Can't stream their media until they get home.

Not a good outcome, IMO.

Actually, it is good that Plex will warn you when you are triggering an upgrade remotely.  I called my daughter at home to make sure if a screen came up that required interaction, she would be there to complete the upgrade.  (Of course she was not there at the time, so I cancelled and did the upgrade when I got home).

I don't mind having to kick off the install from plex web, but I'd like it to just install if it can. 9/10 all I need to do is remote onto the server and click go and thats pointless.

Loads of problems at the moment with the unattended updates to the bundles

Would be nice if everything just worked in seamless operation with no interaction but we are miles away from that unless Plex Media Server is the only thing that runs on the system and no other programs or processes locking files out

And in any case a number of us run Plex Media Server in non-admin accounts or as a service and there would be user interaction needed to manage such updates and give authority

We are looking into options for streamlining the update procedure, it will still require a click in the web interface, but we might be able to take it from there, nothing definitive yet.

That's the way I would like it: no unattended installs, but a very easy upgrade procedure. Unattended installs are very inconvenient when they do require attention (server reboot, library rebuild) from somebody that is 1000 miles away for 3 weeks (hoping to use Plex).

Has this been implemented in the latest preview server release? It looks like it might have been

I don’t agree with unattended updates, but the ability to simply agree to install an update from Plex Media Server–given that it already shows there is an update available, and what has changed–makes sense. The only time I remote into a my machine is to manually install the update. It should be installable directly from the Web interface.
