According to another Mac user it is:
- Quit PMS
- Double-click download to unzip or mount DMG (depending on version)
- Drag the new
Plex Media Server.appto replace the old one (usually in “Applications” - That’s it
According to another Mac user it is:
Plex Media Server.app to replace the old one (usually in “Applications”Ok, thanks for your patience. I’ll try it again and see where I am. It’s probably somehow a user error, I’m just not sure what I’m missing. This is all new to me.
It could not find any of the 4 files I attempted to remove in the terminal. I’ll continue on.
" Domain (com.plexapp.plexmediaserver) not found.
Defaults have not been changed."
Ok. I removed all my authorized devices. I signed out of the web account. I closed the server. I confirmed the deletion of the 4 files. I opened the server. Did not launch or sign into the online app. I ran the “claimit” instructions. Everything was ok, except for the fatal 401 error again.
Should I try this all again, but with an older version of software? If so, is there a particular version I should try?
In a terminal, try and type : cat ~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist
That should show you the contents of the plist file, as well as if the 4 entries are really gone
I just signed in. I was promtpted with:
“An unclaimed media server has been found on your network. Claim it now”
This is what usually happens, but when I go to claim it, It tells me I don’t have access to that server.
Since claimit reported 401, and now the webclient also reports this, I have to ask one thing.
When you ran the claimit script, did you use your regular IP addy when asked, or 127.0.0.1?
And if you didn’t use 127.0.0.1, then please try again, and use that
I just ran it and it gave me a block of data I don’t fully understand. It appears some of the data contains my IP, otherwise I would copy and paste it here. suggestions?
I used my reg IP. I’ll try again as you suggested.
That most likely implies a firewall is in place, or a browser issue…
But yes, try and claimit with my script, and use 127.0.0.1
Well this looks promising. Proceed to signing in?
" IP Address of PMS server: 127.0.0.1
Comparing entered passwords
Comparing entered passwords ok
Getting PMS Server Identifier
Getting PMS Server Identifier ok
Getting User Token from plex.tv
Getting User Token from plex.tv ok
Getting PMS Claim Token
Getting PMS Claim Token ok
Claiming server
Claiming server ok 200
Please close your browser, reopen, and browse to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web"
So the claimit script seemed to have worked. Then I tried signing in and got this:
“A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here.”
In your browser, and since you only have one PC, did you go to: http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or something else?
I clicked the hyperlink on the original instructions on this thread. http://localhost:32400/web
Bad move?
Nope, since localhost = 127.0.0.1
I suspect a browser or firewall issue here, since your PMS is now claimed.
Try another browser for a start
I was using safari. I just downloaded and tried in Firefox. Same thing.
Then firewall/Antivira
I’ve never installed one?
Since claimed now, does this work:
No. It doesn’t work on either browser.
