I have a couple of FireTVs. I was curious about the delay between when releases are posted in Release Announcements, and when they become available on Amazon (or updated on the device). Both of my FireTVs have v4.21.0.528, which was released on Feb 16 2016. This is the same version currently available in Amazon’s App Store (which has a date of Feb 25 2016). There have since been 3 updates. The latest (v4.22.2.540) has some key additions that I’ve been waiting for (specifically delete).
So, what’s the deal here? I understand that Plex submits it to Amazon, then Amazon needs to approve it.
So, does v4.22.0.534 need to get reviewed then approved. Then v4.22.1.537 needs to get reviewed then approved. Then v4.22.2.540 needs to get reviewed and approved?
Amazon reviews whatever Plex provides them. If a update is submitted to Amazon for review while another review is in progress, they stop reviewing the first one and start over with the new one. I believe Amazon currently has 4.22.2.540 for review.
I marked this as answered (thank you!), but i have a follow up question/comment.
I saw that there was another update today, so that would mean another “start over” on the Amazon review process? With all of these recent updates (which I really appreciate), it seems like it just keeps pushing the availability date off more and more. I’m not sure what the average approval time frame is, but there have been updates (and Amazon review “start overs”) on March 2, March 3, March 8, and March 9.
I understand that this is more of an issue with Amazon. I also understand that I could sideload if I really want the most recent version. Just seems like it would be good to allow an update to make it through the review process before another one is submitted. Then again, some fixes really need to get corrected right away (which could potentially be pushed off indefinitely with updates posted so close together).
I don’t want to sound like I am complaining about the updates to the Android app. I really like the love it’s getting. It’s just frustrating.
Typically updates do not come out this often. The last few have been to fix issues that cropped up from the prior update, so these really needed to get out. Although this could delay Amazon’s review process, we feel it is better to have a delay and get the proper app out than to have a buggy version out there and have to wait for each one to get approved.
