Why is Plex on the Amazon App Store 7 versions behind the latest release? That’s ridiculous.
Because of the Amazon review process. As if you didn’t already know that.
It’s not supposed to take 1 month per version to get approval. So at this rate I’ll be up to date next year.
I also want an explanation from the employees.
Again, you know who is responsible for this lag. You can tag as many Plex employees as you please. It won’t change the glacial nature of Amazon’s review process. Grab an Apple TV or Roku if you want a more expedient update cycle.
Plex is not, and never will be, in a position to change this. Move on.
Yea, Plex is responsible. They are the one who states it only takes 1-2 days.
Genuinely curious, where does Plex state this?
NOTE: We are performing a staged rollout, which means the update may take a day or two before it becomes available.
That’s fair. But naive on Plex’s part. Do you just want them change their language regarding the speed of the rollout? What’s the end-goal here? Amazon isn’t going to change their processes. Do you just want Plex to acknowledge their poor wording? Or do you expect Plex and Amazon to engage in an arm-wrestling match?
You seem like an intelligent person. Surely you understand the concept of picking your battles. Right?
But it’s not available from the Amazon app store until Amazon approves it.
Usually it only takes a day or two for an app review on Amazon and Google Play, sometimes though the reviews take longer - these delays are out of our control. We do communicate with them but sadly any delays we have no control over.
Hopefully the latest version will be available on Amazon devices next week, until then you can sideload a build on your device.
it is available, now go ask Amazon why they have not put it up.
I got tired of waiting so “sideloaded” it on one device just so I could get a look at it. Haven’t done the others yet but might do if it drags out very much longer.
Is there any possible way to release an upgrade apk that is then side loaded without removing the current app and re-installing.
I’m just not seeing how the app store can upgrade an app without losing user data but we can’t do that manually?
It’s nothing to side load the app but having to re-activate and do settings all from scratch each time is the killer here…
On an unrelated note:
If I get a Shield are the updates pushed faster in the Nvidia store?
Does Live TV & DVR start in a paused state when loading a channel/going back to the guide like it does on the Firestick 4k?
Is there any note in regards to this bug being fixed on the Firestick 4k?
When sideloading from our forums they wont require an uninstall, your existing data should still be available.
The SHIELD gets updates via Google Play, these are usually available within a few hours - unless we do a staged rollout.
The FireTV shouldnt start playback paused on the guide, it should be playing whilst your browsing the guide.
Sorry, but which bug is that?
The bug in which Live TV & DVR starts in a paused state when loading a channel. I then have to un-pause once the first frame shows up. It will also pause when navigating back to the guide from actively watching.
So if the app is currently sideloaded then all further sideloaded updates will automatically install? So the situation was only when switching from the Amazon store app to the sideloaded… The Android mobile app doesn’t do this but it does on the Firestick 4k…
Sideloading will upgrade the Amazon store version as well, but make sure you use the Amazon Armv7a build, the other Armv7a build is for Google devices.
I sideloaded the “Amazon Fire OS Devices (armv7a)” version from the below link.
Says “App not installed” “The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name.”
kepler-armv7a-amazon-fireExo-9.0.6.31998-fa17c77a.apk
Actually I ended up uninstalling my FireTV Plex client then installing the downloaded one. The install without uninstall didn’t seem to work for me. Then I had to reassociate with my account but didn’t seem like a big deal to me.
So the app will only allow a sideloaded update if you already started with a sideloaded app. You cant go from Amazon store and then upgrade via sideload without first uninstalling the Amazon store version.
You can however go from sideloaded to updated sideloaded.
