Unexpected Error - No Libraries Show Up

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402
Player Version#: web console

I’m running Plex server on a WD My Cloud PR4100 NAS. I’ve been diligent about updating the Plex software and NAS firmware and I upgraded to the latest Plex version less than a week ago. It’s a fairly large library with over 2800 movies, another quite large library of ripped TV shows, and a smaller library of family videos. The system has been running pretty solidly for well over 18 months.

Earlier tonight, the home page stopped coming up. When I went to Manage:Libraries, I get the very helpful message: “There was an unexpected error”. I first tried restarting the application to no avail. I then tried restarting the NAS, but also no luck. I then tried reinstalling the application. Also no luck.

I’m not sure where to turn next. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I’m happy to supply whatever logs are needed, but I may need some guidance about getting them.

Thanks in advance!

8/1 Addition: Note all my movie files seem to be unscathed - at least I can see them in the file system. So I’m guessing the Plex metadata database is damaged? Looking for general troubleshooting steps. I’d like to avoid having to start from scratch if possible since I’ve added quite a bit of “custom” data over the years.

If it helps, I have attached logs and database files.Plex Media Server Databases_2018-07-11_15-15-16.zip (22 Bytes) Plex Media Server Logs_2019-08-01_12-03-33.zip (4.1 MB)

No replies so far. Should I take the more drastic approach to uninstall and then reinstall Plex? I have tried simply reinstalling to the latest version without first uninstalling and that seemed to have no effect. I assume I will lose all my metadata if I do so. Not the total end of the world, but I will lose a lot of work if that happens.

I have also tried optimizing the databases to no avail. I will note that the Plex Server Database file I posted seems to be empty, but that is what I got when I downloaded it from the console. Does this mean my Plex database is gone?

Has anyone else come across this before?

After more investigation about uninstalling and reinstalling the Plex app, it appears that the database doesn’t go away. In order to solve that, I’d have to do some advanced things to my NAS that I don’t feel comfortable doing.

So the way I think I’m going to solve this problem is to redeploy a new Plex server running on my very powerful desktop. It can access all the same NAS content via mapped drives. Further, it is more easily extensible to non-NAS drives if I run out of space. There seem to be other advantages, too.

I’ve installed the new instance and so far it appears to be working quite well although I think it will take a while to get me close to where I was.
